I added a jabber account via the XMPP settings dialog and would expect this account to show up when selecting "Show presence details", no matter if I'm actually able to set it to "Available" (due to possible certificate issues).

I'm using an existing account which works well with other clients, so the connection itself should be not an issue. The XMPP setup dialog doesn't show any suspicious behaviour as well, which makes me think everythings ok in this respect.

Is the above assumption correct?

I'm using the latest official firmware incarnation BTW.

Thanks.

Edit: Deleting and readding the XMPP account doesn' t make a difference, neither does rebooting.

does the server use a self-signed certificate?

The server uses a CAcert certificate I already extracted and placed in .config/telepathy/certs, along the lines of what's mentioned here as well: https://together.jolla.com/question/4998/xmpp-other-than-google-talk-does-not-work/.

This issue seems to be back in the latest version 2.1.3.7 I have tried to this in two different accounts and no success in Presence showing any account.

I suppose that I found the glitch, which is rather a UI issue than a functional one:

In the XMPP account creation dialog, it's not obvious that "Username" requires the server part, if "Server Address" below has been specified explicitely. I would have assumed that in this case, both are concatenated.

It looks as if this is not the case, but there's no error message either. To a user, it seems like everything is configured correctly.

It might already be sufficient to require a @ in the username, to make sure it's fully qualified.

At least in 2.1.3.7 this does not resolve the problem.

Strangely enough, i can add one xmpp account (riseup.net) but not an account from diasp.org. Using xperia x compact with kyminjoki.

Not so sure I will be using jabber, certiifcate for jabber.org expired a year ago, and the register.jabber.org says (also for a year now)

"June 25, 2013: We have temporarilydisabled account registration at the jabber.org IM service while we migrate the account database to a new machine. We will enable the web registration form again as soon as possible! In the meantime, you can create an account at any other public XMPP service."

You don't have to register at jabber.org, there's quite a number of other servers around + you can set up your own.

This is the real power of the protocol, no central server, cryptography available, you could even use your own jabber server. It is as simple as having an email address. Wonderful! BTW I use duckduckgo server, duckgo.com, you could also send message to their search engine, it's an always online contact.
