VKB not showing in SMS [not relevant]

I am not sure if this is a dupe, difficult issue to search for, so please someone close it if something similar exists.
When I launched the SMS/message app. I selected a contact's history at the first screen to enter a new message. Then, no matter how much I tapped the input field at the bottom it didn't pop up the virtual keyboard. I quit the app and relaunched it several times but no difference.
I then rebooted the phone and it was back again.
This tells me the VKB can enter some bad state where it doesn't show up anymore. I believe this has been a little flaky in the browser as well, it doesn't always show up (even though I believe the state I ended up in the SMS-app was more static).
I also often (few times a month) experiencing this issue. It's really annoying and the only solution is to reboot your Jolla.

there is no relation to chat lenght history per person, but i will try to wipe all messages, wich is not solution but could get some answers.
last when this issue occured i typed two words, then put phone on chair before phone gots locked i wasnt able to type anymore, chnge orientation visualy works but only back button is functional, then back to list and only scroll is working. cant open any contact, same after app close a relaunch.. so powering off.
