Android bluetooth support for Apps like Runtastic or Endomondo Sports Tracker would be great.

Also for Racechrono.com app as we need to use 5Hz or higher Bluetooth GPS devices.

I second that with bluetooth audio in android apps. Audio seems to play well through internal loudspeaker and does not seem to work when phone is hooked up to my stereo system via external bluetooth speakers.

there seems to be a runtastic specific problem... runtastic is not putting out any sound whatsoever... all other android apps i tried do it, even over my BT-headset, but runtastic refuses to... back to the good old stopwatch then ;D

Just tried Digifit iCardio, it said bluetooth not available. So I will add my vote for this feature.

Hello @eric (poking you as I've seen your name in revision history):

  • trying to summarize all those requests here, because with the number of wearables/health/whatnot devices skyrocketing, this page is soon going to impossible to read -

1/ Sailfish OS does support a number of Bluetooth profiles - listed here : https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201440697-What-Bluetooth-profiles-does-SailfishOS-support- - but it is far from being comprehensive right now => Suggestion: clearly state which BT profiles are NOT supported by Sailfish OS - whether your Bluetooth profiles reference page is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bluetooth_profiles or https://developer.bluetooth.org/TechnologyOverview/Pages/Profiles.aspx - illustrate with some end-user, widespread examples of BT devices => Refer to "Jolla & Ext. devices" report tool from http://reviewjolla.blogspot.fr/2013/12/user-report-tool-jolla-and-external.html DIT form, maybe making it easier to read => Decide - and communicate - regarding implementation of currently unsupported BT profiles by Sailfish OS, by answering these questions - a/ profiles that are going to be prioritized for implementation b/ ETA of implementation releases c/ types and examples of devices (wearable/health/car/whatnot) that will be covered by those profiles d/ profiles that are considered second or third wagon, and whose implementation is low request - in order to properly set community expectations => Conclusion: even if I strongly doubt that Withings, Jawbone or Polar will release Sailfish apps any time soon, at least we'll have proper technical ground for some Jolla genius community developers out there to implement some kick-ass 3rd party apps

2/ Version of Alien Dalvik shipped with Jolla is 4.1 - BTLE/"Bluetooth Smart" is supported ONLY from Android version 4.3 (and above...) => Fact: considering Google code policies for Android v4.3+, Alien Dalvik VM replacement for these latest versions is even less likely to happen this year - or even the next one - than Polar releasing a Sailfish native app or my gran'ma doing bungee jumping on Cook Islands. => Document Bluetooth profiles handled by Android support on Jolla smartphone - listing them like here https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201440697-What-Bluetooth-profiles-does-SailfishOS-support- => Document Bluetooth profiles currently NOT handled by Android support on Jolla smartphone, but that might be in the future, again setting community expectations by communicating on the same 4 questions as above, and also maybe having the same "Jolla & Ext. devices" report tool from DIT w/ Jolla blog, but this time exclusively for Android apps & VM => Clearly state and document WHICH Bluetooth profiles will always be impossible to be handled by Alien Dalvik on Jolla smartphone, due to this VM intrinsic limitations - as long as it is not replaced by version 4.3+, obviously - citing types and examples of devices (wearable/health/car/whatnot) that will never be able to communicate with Android apps in Dalvik VM on Jolla, even if that might hurt appetite for Jolla for some self-conscious ppl or mechanics (JK) - Transparancy first.

I think maybe the Xda community can help on the bluetooth solution by hack a full working supporting bluetooth profile into dalvik VM, I am sure Xda people would like to help on this ;)

@chrisx2dsjolla, Great! Sounds good to me. How to we get them on board? Would you manage relations with Xda ppl? @eric, do you reckon there's anything we should be cautious about with Jolla/SailfishOS, from a legal point of view?

Thank you.

How can Jolla support Bluetooth Smart if it doesn't have the hw for that?

jollailija ( 2015-08-10 11:53:25 +0300 )edit

1/ Should be supported since 2.1.0 (we're at 2.1.3 now)

2/ Jolla C / Intex Auqa Fish have a 4.4 Aliendalvik.

So why still no support?

this is the answer from jolla in finnish that they gave me regarding the bluetooth support in android. In english it says that because of the development of the tablet we have to wait for months before they make it happen in the phone...nice going jolla :(

Hei!

Valitettavasti Android-sovellusten BT-tukea joudut odottamaan vielä kuukausia. Se on kyllä toivelistan kärkipäässä, mutta menossa oleva tablet-työ vaatii veronsa: Android-tuen järkkääminen kuntoon tabletille tehdään ensin, ja vasta sitten toteutetaan uusia palveluita Sailfishiin kuten tuo BT-tuki.

Sad, but fair. I already miss support connection to camera via wifi, next MIOPS trigger going that way. Maybe at summer I just "join movement" and switch to android device...

Not having serial port support is very limiting in the alien android. Watches, Car diagnostic tools etc. All use the serial port profile. Sad news, but we'll have to wait...I guess.

Tablet has been abandoned long ago. Neither Jolla C nor Intex Aqua Fish support bluetooth from within Andoird apps. What happened to the promises?

What is the status of that request? With the new IoT objects coming all around the world (watch, sport tracker etc ...), it starts to be something very mandatory for Sailfish

Since when do IoT-devices require bluetooth?

Fuzzillogic ( 2016-09-26 00:36:09 +0300 )edit

Blutooth connection is the base of that wearables. How to sync your wearable and your phone? How to send notification to your wearable?

Wearables aren't necessarily IoT devices, in fact many are not. IoT devices are accessible through the internet by definition, and thus don't require bluetooth.

Hei,

Thank you for contact

Unfortunately we don't have any updates regarding our previous message. At this moment adding the support is not in our roadmap, and our development is almost exclusively focused on the tablet. For this reason we cannot promise will we add this feature or not.

We apologize we don't have more clear answer on hand.

Sincerely yours, Jolla customer support

I bought a brand new Garmin Edge 820 (bike computer) this week and it requires to get all feature to run a Garmin android app on the mobile phone. Unfortunately the app can not connect to the device, because it reports that my android device (jolla 1) is not supported. The BT pairing on the SFOS layer works perfect, but than Andoid is not recognizing it. After searching together.jolla.com I found this old entry. How is the current status? I hope the last SFOS update improved/better updated Alien Dalvic to a more up-to-date version, but I think this did not happen.

@Jolla: Can you give us now an update about the future plan of getting the Alien Dalvic to a more up-to-date version?

I bought the Sony WH-1000XM2 Bluetooth headset. The connection with my Sailfish X works! Then I installed the Sony headphones connect app from Yalp store, but the app show me, that Bluetooth is disabled. After searching together.jolla.com I found also this very old thread. Are there any news when alien dalvik will support bluetooth?

The audio streaming by Bluetooth works. I have tried it with Wynk Music and have sent audio to the Logitech Bluetooth receiver and both the native apps i.e. the media app and the Airtel Wynk could stream flawlessly. Tested with Intex Aquafish on 2.0.2.51

Good to know, thanks. Anyway, I still can't sync my FitBit and my Intex. The Fitbit app doesn't detect bluetooth connection
