Fast calling seems to be difficult. you have to unlock devise, swipe down, launch app and etc..

suggestion 1.

Lock screen should have favourite contact app (with contact photos) to choose direct call or message. this application should be enabled from settings and be "pinned" so that it stays there even after reboot.

suggestion 2.

swiping left from lock screen opens full page of favourite contacts or all contacts

Don't like this idea much. We can imagine easier <put anything="" here=""> and it depends of the usage. As a heavy texter, I would prefer to pin contacts so that it opens conversation instead of dialing this person.</put>

I think we've gone a long way from usability when considering the main function of a phone. After unlocking the device: you could immediately start typing the contact name on E71 and it would guess it. With N900 it's one extra tap. N9 and jolla both require swipes and ~4 taps.

How about a "Call" pulley menu option first in lock screen which opens dialer app with number keyboard?

Currently you can use the pulley menu to access recent calls log directly from the lock screen. Unlock phone, select menu, click recent contact to make a call.

I don't think the call functionality is too far away as such (unlock-pull, or unlock-swipe-tap). What i would change, though, is that the search field in Persons should not be hidden in a menu, but always visible. That alone would facilitate calling by a great deal.

Just compare it to a classic phone, which somehow had the perfect UI: - grab the earphone - wait for dial tone - dial the number

And now

  • at least 4 taps / swipes to get there

Just imagine making an emergency call in a stressed situation. I am not saying that it's a catasrophy but it could be done much better!

emergency call is direct accessible from lockscreen, otherwise without lockscreen, is worse. that's right.

Was it in 2013? I don't remember and I don't use my Jolla anymore.

hardcodes.de ( 2015-11-12 11:59:10 +0300 )edit

@cemoi71, it is? Where? (OIC, you mean the screen where you type the unlock code. Ambiguous terms...)

pichlo ( 2015-11-12 12:28:27 +0300 )edit

@hardcodes.de ow! i didn't saw the date. i can't tell you for 2013, i hadn't my phone. was in 2014 and now. sorry for inconvenience

cemoi71 ( 2015-11-12 12:46:36 +0300 )edit

@pichlo why it is ambiguous? lock-screen is a very important function for a lot of users.

I totally agree that getting a call done sometimes is quite cumbersome.

Usually I have my Phone app always on home screen, but there may be moments it should be way easier (as said before, think of an emergency call).

My suggestion would be to use three taps or "knocks" on blank screen to directly open Phone app or dial pad (emergency calls could be really fast this way), and/or four taps to open already the most important person's contact dialler page (or what ever it is called), or likewise.

Of course, everything configurable in settings.

Would that be possible, @spiiroin?

lakutalo ( 2015-11-12 11:17:14 +0300 )edit

@lakutalo: There is ongoing jolla+community activity to use additional (supported by hw / fw) touchscreen gestures -> invoking things like camera/call ui.

Once the whole pipeline is working, it should be possible to

  1. Redefine what double tap does

And with some extra effort:

  1. Support additional sw based gestures from SneakPeek/glance screen/fake lpm
  2. Optionally support sw gestures from display off at the expense of battery life

Here comes another suggestion: add a quick action to call a person or number directly from events view.

Currently this does not come out of the box, but the ambitious and impatient one may create a corresponding quick action him/herself.

A q&d prototype can be found here: https://together.jolla.com/question/117024/which-additional-quick-actions-would-you-like-to-have/?answer=121657#post-id-121657

Until Jolla will do something like you asking, you can use this app for fast calling to specific persons by adding desktop icon to shortcuts and use it from pulley menu even if lock code activated. https://openrepos.net/content/schturman/fast-dial-icon-creator
