Could Jolla 2 = TOH + Fairphone [not relevant]
Was looking over at the Fairphone folks and it hit me, could #unlike's 2nd device, and a clearer focus for market influence, be in combining the open developing happening with SailfishOS, the IP of The Other Half (TOH), and Fairphone's logistical and sustainability goals?
That's not to say that Jolla hasn't been forthcoming, nor forward-moving - but that it would seem that both Fairphone and Jolla are aiming at a very similar kind of customer (in the Western demographic sense of things), and it would seem to be a solid match.
And even if not for an upcoming Jolla device, why wouldn't SailfishOS be ported to the current and upcoming Fairphone hardware specs? It just seems to fit
There's also some crossover with what Aral Balkan (@aral on twitter) is doing at http://indiephone.eu with more socially informed software.
It'd be great to see these efforts pulling together to challenge the current mobile OS duopoly.

TeHeR ( 2014-01-03 16:37:07 +0200 )edit"in the Western demographic sense": As far as I know, Jolla sees/expects a great future for Sailfish on Asian markets ... This may not exclude, that Jolla and Fairphone could cooperate. However, at least for the moment, I do not see that Sailfish is suited for Fairphone: Fairphone customers probably rather want something mature and proven.
jgr ( 2014-01-05 23:28:55 +0200 )edit@jgr - I would agree that many of Fairphone's customers might want something more mature (I think many in the Jolla/SailfishOS team have more than proven themselves in light of Maemo, MeeGo, WebOS, and BB10). But you are right, it might not be a good match; just one worth exploring.
arjwright ( 2014-01-05 23:36:52 +0200 )editI would be a good match in the sense that FairPhone has high ethical goals, but fails in regard of software freedom. Fairphone users would most probably be very thankful to jolla for porting Sailfish !
