Hi All,

It is approaching the first anniversary of the original Jolla phone, and since it has become my day to day device it is becoming a little battle scarred with scratches, dents, and a health fear of being dropped again.

I am now at the point where I would like to start planning it's replacement as I suspect I will have killed it by Feb at the latest. My preference would be to stay with Jolla, however there is no information regarding Jolla's plans for next Jolla device which makes planning challenging.

It would be really useful not just for us users but for the markets to understand what the device roadmap looks like at a high level. Even if it is some statements about when the decision to launch a 2nd device is likely to be released. We are all wise enough to understand any appropriate disclaimers (subject to approval, market conditions, wind direction) as I think most of us understand there are no certainties in business (other then uninformed consumers always go elsewhere ;-) ) so a high level plan should be possible.

I do not want to buy a 2nd Jolla and then 2 months later find that there is a new device to be launched. I can understand that Jolla will want to maximise sales of the 1st device but there will come a point where the lack of information will become a significant factor for existing users.

Please vote if this is an important issue for you.

I think we will stay with first device for a bit more than usually other manufacturer do. And I like this way, there's still plenty of potential to be done on the first device. I think we will start hearing of a new device next year.

in addition, new markets such as Australia? maybe revised modem for the north American market as well. lastly release days for already announced markets i.e. India.

There are people wanting to try full sailfish odds, not just limited version available for Android devices. (delvik, mall for exchange).

really I'm asking is there any revisions for hardware current planned?

I'm not sure how far they can go in this case. Saying "New phone will be out May 4th, 2015" would most likely ruin the market for them. Who would ever buy the old model if the date for the new one is official? IIRC (but I don't find the source any more), there was a statement about a possible release date in 2015 (or even "no sooner than 2015", don't know). I would be very suprised should we get anything more specific.

Device roadmaps are rather commercially sensitive, so I suspect it's quite unlikely. Though the lack of even any general discussion of hardware or future plans is in stark contrast to Jolla selling themselves as 'open' and community based ... but then, having no public software roadmap or bugtracker isn't exactly very open, either ...

@midnightoil:I don't see the exact difference between a "device roadmap" and "discussing future hardware".

I don't remeber where I read it but I remember that Jolla stated that the next device will come in 2015 and that they will provide further information at the end of 2014 (maybe at SLUSH 2014?).

Consider also that Mobile World Congress in february is a good event to present new mobile products

The question already exists here.

Sorry but I am going to disagree on a technicality. This question is specific to the device roadmap, where as the linked question is more general covering the development roadmap which is addressed by the roadmap tag. I cannot find any roadmap items related to the device, but there are plenty for Sailfish OS.

I do not think this question should have been closed.
