Hi Folks, I have added gPodder, which i've used on desktop for ages and love, except ............ one podcast will not play no matter what i do (linux action show, linux outlaws play fine), it's an american talk show (alex jones) and every download plays great for a few minutes then starts jumping ridiculously and becomes unlistenable after just minutes.

I reinstalled gPodder out of curiosity to see if it was a dodgy install, didn't help with the jumping/skipping though unfortunately, any suggestions what might be causing this please ??

Hi davekelly, more often than not, it's to do with the bitrate of the file.

See this post for more info; https://together.jolla.com/question/23341/garbled-playback-of-some-mp3s-with-builtin-player/ and this link; https://together.jolla.com/question/30533/mediaplayer-fails-with-low-samplerates/

I understand to a degree here, for example, I know my car stereo can be awkward with mp3 files, everything on the USB stick has to be under 192kbps or it won't play or even 'see' the files on the flash drive. However this is not exactly the same with the phone IMO, the phone is lacking something to play the files as I see it, the downloads from gPodder come down to the phone in whatever bitrate the host dictates, I can't change that - and to add insult to injury, I have a cheap android that will play the same files without a hitch that cost less than half the price of the jolla.

Is there not likely to be some package I can install to make it compatible with the bitrate of whatever comes down? If a cheap android can play them, there's got to be something missing on the Jolla surely?

I am not able to play the podcast from http://feeds.serialpodcast.org/serialpodcast?format=xml with gpodder.

As indicated in the posts behind the links in the answer above the bug persists and the workaround is to install QuasarMX from Jolla Store, a music player that is actually capable of playing "bad quality" mp3 files.

As you can tell QuasarMX where to scan for content (although not to location that includes a hidden directory that starts with a "."), my solution is to download the podcast with gpodder anyway and to copy the files from /home/nemo/.local/share/harbour-org.gpodder.sailfish/direcoryofpodcast to a new directory /home/nemo/podcastquasarmx, for example.

Well...
