No sound from notifications

For some reason, I'm not getting any sound from notifications such as email, SMS, etc, even though I have sounds selected in both system settings and ambience settings. Not even alarms have sound, it just vibrates and shows a crossed out note! Ringtone from phone calls is working though, but no sound from anything else... Also, preview of sounds in settings is not working either, when I select a sound it will show the pause button but nothing will play.

Any idea what the cause could be? For the record I'm running Tahkalampi and have tried resetting the device twice. I'm also using the Snow White ambience.

edit: Nevermind, phone call ringtone is not working either anymore. It seems to be a hardware problem, if I push the back cover close to the speaker, there will be sound but as soon as I let go the sound will cease. Looks like I'll have to send it in for repairs.

I also had a speaker problem and Jolla Care could fix it quiet fast. Next time you can also test such problems (I hope you won't have another one though!) with the CSD Tool. Enter *#*#310#*#*

in dialer and you can test different hardware components.

That's great, didn't know about this powerful tool. It failed on the receiver sound. I couldn't hear anything. So what should be the next step? Anything I can do here?

No, not really. Sounds to me like a hardware issue :-( Contact Jolla Care - https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=54653

I made good experiences with them, when I had a similar issue. Just tell them what's not working and that you made the CDF Tool test - you can also send a link to your request here. If you still are on your warranty, the hole repair process should be free.

Hi, I thought I was suffering from the same issue, but in my case it turned out that I had simply chosen a ring tone that was too short. It seems that the Jolla misses the first ~0.5s of the mp3 tone and what I had chosen was a very short beep and the entire thing got missed.

I chose an other mp3 with two beeps one after the other causing at least one to be audible.
