People - Edit Instant messaging properties

In the People app you currently can't edit Instant messaging properties. Apparently my imported contacts have some invalid entries, and when I try to send a message the protocol shows up as unknown or jabber and the messages seems to go to /dev/null without any notifications.

Unfortunately, you can't currently use an imported IM address immediately - a remote IM address is only usable when it is linked with a local telepathy IM account, otherwise we don't know how to contact that address. In the short term, unlinked IM addresses will be made unactionable, to reduce confusion. In the longer term, we will need some way of selecting a local account to use to contact a given IM address.

Thanks for clearing that up. So WiP/TODO :)

Just to add a little to this subject:

If you implement rfc4770 connecting synced IM addresses to Telepathy accounts should be fairly straight forward. For XMPP properties they can be linked to any XMPP account. To have a finer grained selection you can check for the domain name or the X-SERVICE-TYPE property parameter that is being used in several clients.

@MattVogt This q might need an update

Agreed. This is a thing that should need no user-interaction, but "Just Work"
