As this is an opt-in update, let's put up a quick three answers wiki poll: I wish people who decided to install it give their opinion to one of the answers below, just a vote or a comment.

This is to help people who are asking themselves should they update or not, let's help them out in their decision :)

Updating again after a factory reset because the Jolla didn't connect to WiFi after the update. Good point to get a clean start ;-) So be warned. When the update is finished I will vote.

anyone who upgraded: can you tell me if the issue with the browser miss-click (offseted click position) is fixed? It makes the bbrowser kind if useless. Sitting and rotating the device back and forth switching between landscape and portrait to get it to recalc not only looks stupid, it IS stupid.

Wow, now i realize the bug itself caused me to comment this in the wrong thread because browser clicked the wrong issue. See what I mean? Larswad (4 mins ago)e

That's still an issue, hoping it'll get high priority... I'm using Webcat (Sailfish) or Dolphin (Android) browsers on those sites I've encountered it LOL for your Wow! :D

This browser bug could be worked around by not panning the screen too much til the pixelated fast preview of a page changes to normal crisp view. I think that is where the lottery starts, if you start to pan the view while page is still pixelated - just slight nudge would update the screen and then you are good to go.

veeall ( 2014-10-23 01:33:54 +0200 )edit

@Madry Experiencing that on exactly same sites still. Happens every time after zooming the content. But Gecko engine has been upgraded, meaning that some sites are supported better than before.

Most things fine for me (no Android apps): usable.

If u don't have any tunes/mods in your Jolla and you take backup and copy it to a memorycard!!

so easy to get it jammed and factory reset is waiting :), but it is much faster and browser is now usable, no text copy tought....

Makeclick ( 2014-10-23 18:47:31 +0200 )edit

Running quite smoothly. Funny thing is: last week in 1.0.8 the People list showed a big gap between the photos and the alphabet. Based on the reports, I expected this behaviour to go on. Instead, it fills up fast with the people from Phone and Message lists.

rob_kouw ( 2014-10-24 23:41:43 +0200 )edit

I installed the update 5 days ago. So far, I did not have major issues. I had to close the browser a few times, to release some memory and prevent slow behavior, but all in all it was a good update.

I was awaiting this update to begin fully testing the device so can only recommend from a light/non-essential use perspective so far. The fixes I'd personally been looking forward to have worked perfectly and have shown what was always hoped of Jolla - response to feedback. Where you'd be left with other companies knowing your request would likely never occur unless it brought in more revenue, patience with Jolla is more likely to be rewarded! So far have now tested GPS without A-GPS enabled using Navigator and other apps. Email draft autosave works and various Android apps (VLC, Firefox) all still running. So far only new error/warning is about an app being unresponsive (just chose wait and no app crashed) when running five or six apps. Update: First issue - jolla-fileman has stopped functioning since update. Have removed and reinstalled but still just a white screen displaying on opening.

quite a few apps dont work, like Meerun. also Gally app crashes when trying to open an image.

Whippler ( 2014-10-23 01:12:24 +0200 )edit

@carmenfdezb : how many applications do you have open when you notice the slowness? Or is it your Jolla sluggish already 'at idle' ?

simosagi ( 2014-10-23 08:39:15 +0200 )edit

Only Mitakuuluu, and it was working fine before update

It depends.

If you are person who wants to use Jolla just like phone and you expect everything to "just work", I DON'T recommend this update!

If you tinker with your phone non stop, this update is exactly for you!

This update is very technical, it does not add almost nothing to the UX and some problems need to be ironed out before it goes mainstream. 😉

@simo - agreed, make this the 3rd option. The Inbetweeners, if you like.

@Kollin - agreed, for the brief reasons laid out next;

Way too many troubles doing this update and I like to think I know a bit. Downloaded the update 3 times (900MB>). Complete recovery done 3 times as none of the other recovery options worked.

Finally got 1.1.038 up and running after many attempts and one late night.

Not recommended for the feint hearted or those who have spent their last cent buying their Jolla phone.

The thing is, even though Uitukka now has QT5.2, the SDK has not been updated yet... Waiting for the update so I can recompile my stuff.

Browser seems to be not affected by this miss-clicking bug anymore. Mobile youtybe finally works fine.

Disagree - This might be fixed on some sited (Browser engine has been updated), but I still experience wrong tap location of links in Blogger service after zooming the content.

For developers, definitively a must! The tech preview aspect of this initiative is very relevant.

I do recommend the update. I use relatively few apps at a time (usually max 6) and I've had no problems with phone being sluggish - and to be honest, it actually feels a lot more responsive now. Also the web browser is more stable and causing less nuisance.

Wifi, 3G, email, mitäkuuluu, integrated facebooking, alarms, camera - all good (in my normal usage). Also the installation process went through without problems.

BUT!!! Do note the Enterprise-WPA and web-view problems if they concern you.

If you need enterprise type WPA connection, do not update!!! There is a regression on the wpa_supplicant which makes the wifi to crash when it tries to connect to an already configured network (and it's incapable to connect to a unknown network).

Comments

It is connman which has the regression, not wpa_supplicant and there will be a fix for all whom have opted-in.
