Compatible spare battery [answered]

These are the Polarcell Batteries, the same you can buy in Ebay. They work, no problems so far but don't expect something too much. For me the phone is surviving only a couple of hours longer not even 1 complete day more I can get out of it. I was a bit disappointed but at least I can use my phone as I know it and don't have to recharge it around 15:00 like I had to with the original battery.

Same for me, use it in both Jollas for months now. No problems, never.

Apologies for not replying right away. Following Eric's announcement, I haven't experimented with the ZTE or other 'non-official' batteries. Given how quickly Jolla's official replacement batteries sold out, I might look at this again.

I'll likely wait another week or so, in case Jolla announces another batch of branded batteries. I realise some people don't have any working batteries right now, so I'll post more if the supply situation doesn't change before then. Following Eric's comment above, I would recommend against using other batteries unless you have no other choice.

After further testing I've found my test phone operates perfectly, with two caveats:

1. Non-frequent, spurious warnings about battery temperature in later Sailfish OS versions (to be expected due to differences with PCBs)
2. THE BATTERY WILL NOT CHARGE WITHIN THE JOLLA HANDSET.

Results are exactly the same with the Huawei-type battery described here.

So: if you have no working battery for your Jolla handset, I recommend that you either:

• buy 2✕ (ZTE) LI3719T42P3h644161 — or 2✕ (Huawei) HB5n1h — plus an external charger, and swap batteries every time you need to charge; OR
• hang out for an official battery. You will either need to wait *ages for Jolla to prepare a sizeable batch, or sit all day on the internet and be ready to snap up a battery from another limited run.

If you're only after a spare, you might want to wait for a full batch of official batteries (or consider the Solar TOH).

Does voltage and casing make it 100%, or have you tested something more? Did you test the voltage with a meter on different temperatures and on different charging levels?

I checked the voltages with a voltage meter at room temperature. I used it in my Jolla to test if it worked and charged. It did. :-)

Sounds promising, can you share those metering results in some form? Table?

simo, do you really think the Jolla battery is special in any way? It's a plain battery Jolla choose from products available on the market. The more users, the better its availability. Also makes sense to choose a battery that has proven to run well in a widely used handset like the HTC 310.

It's possible, and I really hope it's the same, but if not, there are some factors affecting to the charging pattern which might vary. Especially important is the voltage when fully charged to the reported capacity (not below, not above) which can't be checked from the phone.

keep us updated about the quality would be interesting to understand if its better then the powercell

My mind is always thinking this; "CAVEAT EMPTOR".

Patona battery, is okay, but being only 2000mAh it tends to run out before the GT battery does at 2200mAh. Both batteries are physically a good fit, with the GT battery being a very snug fit. Both roughly the same price, both good performance for their rated sizes. my fav of the two is of course, the GT battery for it slightly longer life. Both batteries are good for more than 24 hrs but not more than 48 hrs.

My opinion, if the battery physically fits, the device boots, works, doesn't get hot, doesn't switch off or have any kind of unusual fits and starts, then hey!, pick a battery, any battery and get on with your lives! :)

If Jolla are NOT going to produce batteries for its customers, you have little to no choice but to purchase a 3rd party/pattern part battery.

Check how the battery behaves compared to the original one. The one I took (PolarCell) is one day better one day the same like the old one... I barely manage to survive from 7:00 in the morning till 01:00 in the night

I got the Powery from ebay, seems indeed like a perfect fit so far. I can confirm that the thermal sensor is working and the indicated temperature seems correct. I still need to figure out how to make the phone charge the new battery to 100%, so far I reached 64%, then 73% and now 75% capacity

Maybe(tm) If your warranty runs out, I would suggest getting a HTC Desire 310 battery, because that seems to be fully compatible.

I have the Polarcell battery for Desire 310 in my Jolla. It's a perfect fit physically in Jollas battery department, and so are the voltages and capacity.

I too have now the Polarcell battery, but it does not seem to be any better than my original battery. Capacity with Polarcell is 71.09% and max. Wh is 5.67.

@slehtonen85: Did you give it some charge / discharge cycles? Mine is from initially 88.0 to now 96.25. Jolla needs some cycles to determine the real capacity.

OK, that might help, but I'm still wondering why Jolla do offer the possibility to replace the battery by yourself, but they don't offer spare batteries and say also that a third party battery may void the warranty.

It may be true, that the world doesn't need yet another smartphone, but once in a while the world needs to replace the batteries. If I got that right you can either send your phone to Finland or put a HTC battery in it and loose your warranty? Wow!

Yes. I have used it two weeks. The capacity is same or little better than the original has.

Yes, I use one, No problems that I'm aware of, seems to be as good as the original.

Polarcell's battery seems to have a shorter battery life and is missing correct temperature measurements. Furthermore Giacomo Di Giacomo stated that "... golden batteries do not work properly in the sense that you can only charge them once ...." - so far.

Of all the different batteries in this thread and others, the Powery battery is the only one, as far as I know, that actually comes with correct temperature measurements. I can also confirm that it seems to have a pretty good life cycle. I've used mine since august 2015 and now, it's at 92,57% capacity.

@eson Bought it from akkuland. Great fit! After second charge shows over 93% capacity.
