[Request] Android wear support for Sailfish OS

Hi, I think it's a critical feature for a samrtphone today to have Smartwatch-Support. It would be cool to have a jolla watch, but that's not my point. I'm asking jolla to add android wear support to sailfish OS, because it's important to have multiple options. (Basicly every common SmartWatch today works with AndroidWare).

It could be so power-full. (I'm pretty sure) You can recive the controlls from the watch and push images on it's screen. That means jolla could integrate the watch-os into the phone-os and just push images onto the watch. So every new smartWatch could have the interface the jolla Watch would have!

The Android Wear protocol is closed and not documented so Jolla probably won't do it.

@javispedro Are you shure. I think only the watchOs itself is closed, not the connection between the phone and the watch.

Its definitely not critical to support smart watches when there are other priority stuff pending implementation.

Buy me a Sony Smartwatch 3 (the only one Wear smartwatch I'm interested in) and I may consider implementing this. :)

I have written software to connect the Jolla to the Metawatch, the Samsung Gear, and now I'm experimenting with the Pebble. Android Wear is probably going to be a piece of cake ;P

Note I suspect Android Wear is going to be quite useless when connected to a Jolla, unlike Pebble/MW which at least work officially with iOS and thus they are slightly multiplatform. So I'm not exactly sure if I myself would want this....

There's not that I know of, it's proprietary and tied to Google Play Services.

I have done some sniffing out of a friend's Android Wear, and I found out that it is yet another classic bluetooth protocol (not LE/Smart), and it is also not encrypted. Given enough free time it would probably be piece of cake to RE it.

I think it's not the responsibility of Jolla to add Android Wear / Pebble / Metawatch or whatever support. It's the responsibility of the clock creators to support SailfishOS. Or of motivated third party developers and good documentation of the watch vendors.

But Jolla can help to make integration of such apps/deamons easier eg. allow them in harbour and offer more APIs.

No. It's Jollas job to make my experience as good as they can. And if I can't use a good smart watch, I'll switch asap to the will.I.am pulse when it comes out. If they just wait until everbody comes to them (what they're not doing) nothing will happen.

And the ware support has to be deeply integrated into the OS, because it can push Images onto the screen. That meens you could design a smartwatch interface, that displayes all system-informations and more!

No, it's clearly not part of Jolla to support a specific smartwatch. But the apis for the access of these functions have to be provided.

Android does not support Pebble native and not the Apple smartwatch. Why should Jolla support third party products? Maybe they make their own one which is native integrated.

Because every modern smartWatch runs on Android Ware. Apple, realy... You can't expect other things from Apple, that' why I have a Jolla Phone And Pebble Is open Source with it's own OS, that's even better. But the hole market is Ware, we can't change that fact

At the moment Wear is just a frontend for Google hangouts ;). If you want it go to the Android OS. I would prefer a Joint venture maybe Pebble and Jolla?

with no proper API it's hard to get the android wear working with sailfish. At this point I would say that there are other priorities but could be great to get this feature in the future :) Still, it depends if the wearable market will be the next big thing after the tablets...

This question is reborn since four years!!! Jolla, we need support for Android wear / Tizen / etc etc smart watches in Sailfish X etc. Wellcome to the modern and existing time of period.
