I got my Jolla a few days ago, just before Vaarainjärvi had been released. I updated to Tahkalampi immediately using the Settings app which worked fine. Afterwards, when I hit "Check for updates" it would tell me I'm up to date and refresh the "Last checked" counter. Ever since Vaarainjärvi has been released, whenever I check for updates I get a "Waiting for connection" and the pulley indicator is flashing for a while until it times out. I tried it on WLAN and mobile data -- same result. Thus, I'm unable to update my Jolla.

Anybody experiencing the same issues? Is there a lot of load on the update servers (and will the issue resolve itself) or is it a problem on my end? Any suggestions to work around it (say, update manually)?

What does your Settings > System > About product tells about your version number now?

Test with: (red parts written in the terminal)

  1. Settings > System > Developer mode > enable both the mode and the remote connection, set your password
  2. Launcher > Terminal app
  3. devel-su [enter]
  4. (your password in hidden writing) [enter]
  5. version --dup [enter]

This should check and install your available update, or missing parts of that, directly from the repositories, or return you some detailed information of what blocks you from updating. You can try version --dup several times if needed.

That totally worked. I did as you prescribed, rebooted the phone, and was then able to update. Whatever it was that blocked me from updating (did not copy the output unfortunately), "Waiting for connection" is not a very precise error message... . Thanks for the quick reply and happy holidays.

The same to you Sailor! Glad I was able to help. By what happened, I guess your previous update to 1.0.8 just wasn't quite complete, and the version --dup fixed that update.
