When screen is off, one can only open the

  • lock screen (double tap on screen or one click power button) or
  • home screen (double click power button)

What is missing would be a way to directly open the last used application.

Use Case: I use the phone to navigate around (or I am grocery shopping). In order to save battery I shut off the screen. Now, when I want to have a look on the map I need double-click on power button and then select the application.

Possible Solutions:

  1. make it configurable: e.g. instead of showing the lock screen, show last application.
  2. new gesture to open last application, e.g. triple click on power button to show last application
  3. new time limit, e.g. till 3 min, show last app, after that show lock screen...

The first is probably more sensible. What do you think?

I agree with first solution . I don't like the second because I think pressing a lot the power button can brick it.

Agreed. I experience the need to view an app's UI directly (instead of the home screen) after some time off while listening to podcasts. Checking show notes of a podcast episode, rewinding, forwarding, selecting a more interesting chapter, etc.

@Luca, the triple click was just my fist thought. Maybe sb has a better suggestion for a new gesture.

I miss this possibility too. But is this a duplicate of https://together.jolla.com/question/37176/return-to-last-active-app-from-lock-screen/ ? (That is about going to last used app from lock screen, and this is about skipping the lock screen altogether, but basically same goal: quick access to last used app.)
