If I reboot my phone, the Media player can only pick the music on the built in memory. To get it to recognise the tracks on my SD card, I have to take TOH off and remove/reinsert the SD

Confirmed - removal/reinsertion fixes this, but I worry about wear and tear on TOH.

For me that has happened. For me worked booting the device. And then the music files appeared again. Well the same "symphtom" happens sometimes with the photos and videos too. Some bug perhaps?

It could be a tracker issue because I had the same symptom even though the tracks were still available on the SD card. Rebooting didn't work, but re-inserting the card did.

Can anybody confirm that the SD card is actually mounted and the files are accessible via terminal/file browser, but tracker doesn't "see" them?

I've had this issue several times. I have to remove and insert the SD again, after that the media files are found by apps.

My files (audio on sd) just got lost again, and it seems that

as user nemo, not as root!

tracker-control -es

does the job (re-reads filesystem, rebuilds tracker-index and restarts services). Seems to affect only media-files. Can somebody reproduce this?

(I already posted this answer before, was it intentionally removed from the forum? If this affects other services and is somehow dangerous i think it is better to let us know.)

I haven't seen your answer, and have been following quite closely :)

atm. I can see my media and gallery, so can't confirm your answer, but will try next time it happens.

Well, this worked for me (provided that I do it as root using either sudo or devel-su). My Jolla has forgotten the files on the SD card several times now. Earlier I have pulled it out and reinserted to get them back. It is clearly an issue with tracker. Maybe starts too early after reboot.

Confirmed, it is not even required to run this as root, which is nice. It is easy to add a shortcut for it into /usr/share/applications/ (I wonder if $HOME/.local/share/applications works too?) for the time being.

I've found why my SD card was not indexed, and it looks like no one mentioned it here before, so I'll put as an answer for easy reference.

gsettings set org.freedesktop.Tracker.Miner.Files index-removable-devices true

This property for some reason was set to false, and there was no way to see Music folder on SD card. After setting this, tracker started indexing my SD again. Hope it helps.

I will be very grateful to people who had this problem, if they would check this fix. If it works, I'd say it is not really a bug.

I have all my music on my sdcard and properly indexed (showing in mediaplayer) with index-removable-devices false (re-indexed several times)

I have this problem too but some Music still didn't index properly when I re-indexed using the tracker got around it with a bit of bash to generate play-lists hope this helps

cat Owl\ City.pls | tail -n+4 | grep -o -P "\/[^\.\/]+\." | grep -o -P "[^\/]+" | awk -F ";" '{print "Title"FNR"=" $1}' >> Owl\ City.pls

It's a bit ruff you may want to grep for mp3/ogg before awk rather than use tail -n+2 after depending on the file structure withing the folder

I also had this problem, and it's still there, after 1.0.4.! ! I put a 'tracker-control -es' last in mount-sd.sh (under /usr/sbin) to soft-restart the tracker on each sd mount, and this solution now works fine for me.

Edit: sorry, I was to quick to think I had found a smart solution.... I need to withhold that it still doesn't work (after 1.0.4); after several additional re-boots, my fix only works sometimes (at random it seems), will remove it

I have this same thing on Tahkalampi SW version, after phone was rebooted the media files lost orientation and all ambience lost them too.

wow,same problem here,first time ever after months. My SD is mounted, I tried both tracker soft and hard reset, but my media player refused to see anything. Reboot didn't solve, so it looks like I am left without music.

Hi. don't worry. After while (about one minute) all your media should appear in playlist. probably phone prepares SD card. Also it depends on the size of memory card, type, number of media files and used space. many phones acts similar.
