Suddenly the Backup Function in System stops responding. A blank page (with only the animation circle) is displayed. The phone suggests to wait or to close the application. Same problem after restart the phone (newest version 1.1.1.27).

I try to get the Vaarainjärvi update but can't get the backup to end, it constantly shows the animation and let's you to choose whether to wait or close it?! I do not use the phone in developer stage, so how to overcome?

Maybe useful for some unusual issues with back-up: I used to include some symlinks in /home/nemo/ to facilitate access to equivalent folders on SD card (Documents, Music, Video etc.) Bad idea, as the back-up utility tries to save internal memory contents PLUS symlinked contents. This results of course in a full internal memory condition, and a back-up failure.

@objectifnul this is not related to the discussed issue, so should not mess with the answers to this question. I converted it to the comment but if you want to propose a change in behavior you are welcome to submit new suggestion. To understand the issue with symlinks you told about, you should describe where you created symlinks, e.g. Gallery backup unit only saves data from ~/Pictures and ~/Videos directories and it tries to follow symlinks too because it is hard to understand user's intentions. It'd be possible to limit some cases but solution should satisfy different users.

In English: If (for whatever reasons) the backup folder (/home/nemo/.vault) contains a file named ".vault.lock" then it's impossible to start the backup section in Settings-App! Solution: remove the file. That's all. :)

i could not find such folder like ".vault" in Files. What should I do then to create a backup?

@Kristjan It's a hidden directory. Use 'ls -a' or the like in fingerterm to find.

Note : /home/nemo/.vault disappears completely if you apply "Erase back-up storage" in Settings/Utilities.

Workaround pointed by @peter-berlin will work. But the issue could affect anybody and ordinary user should not bother to solve software bug manually. So it should be fixed in the software itself, the root cause is known and tracked in the Mer bug #1340

@dez I really love it when TJC questions become 'real' bug reports (public ones!) and a link leads from here to there... thumbs up!

For me the solution proposed by Peter-Berlin didn't work, because the file didn't exist, but a similar one did.

Simply remove the .vault.state if the .vault.lock doesn't exist.
