+1 for wake up to the last app

Edit 1: For wake up with the power button too, not just double tap.

Edit 2: I would even go as far as suggesting to make it the default and using the lock screen only for something useful, like entering the lock code if one is set.

With double tap you have the lock screen, with double pressure on the power button you have the main screen on 1.1.1.27 Check also here for something related to last app used.

Yes, but an system option to define what to do when the user made a "double tap" on the screen would be very nice. Think by example, when you are walking through Internet and you need to made some other stuff, when you return to your phone, you want to be positioned automatically on the right place.

For sure the title and maybe the description of this question need some improvement. The current title "wake up with double tap" is already something available. :)

It might even draw more attention to the proposal.

I've been thinking long and hard about this. I also find always waking up to the lock screen quite intrusive. I really love the way this is implemented on the N900. It has two switches. One on the top, this is a normal push button and serves as a power switch. Pressing that brings up the lock screen, where the user has to slide an icon across the screen to unlock the phone. The purpose is to prevent an accidental activation of something when that button gets pressed in the pocket or bag.

The other way to wake up the phone is a slider on the side. This is near impossible to do by accident and therefore the phone wakes up to the last screen it was before it was locked, be it the desktop, the launcher or the current top application.

It would be cool if Jolla did something similar:

  • Keep waking up to the lock screen by pressing the power button as that is something that might be pressed by accident.
  • Keep waking up to the home screen by double power button press as that is quite a nice feature.
  • Wake up to the last screen by double tap as that is very unlikely to happen by accident. (In fact it is quite hard to get that on purpose ;))

Posting this as an "answer" rather than a "comment" to allow people up- and down-vote it. I woul really like to know what you people think.

Press and hold the power button and double tap. ;-)

How about double tap to lock screen, and triple tap to previous screen (home, app...)?

Can you think of ANY situation when you want to go to the lock screen?

@pichlo - Yes, I double tap my phone all the time to check the time, the date, notifications, and to ensure that it's silenced.

Ahh, yes. All those things that would normally be in a status bar :)

My suggestion - wake up to the last screen - would not stop you doing that.

duplicate of https://together.jolla.com/question/31260/optional-setting-double-tap-to-open-home-screen/

You can configure also double tap to go directly to home screen instead of lock screen via:

mcetool --set-doubletap-mode=unlock

Note: Does not bypass device unlock screen.

Caveat: Might still make pocket calls / similar issues more likely if proximity sensor etc are not working as expected.

Also, if the not yet officially available Sneak Peek (a.k.a "fake lpm" / "glance screen") is enabled:

mcetool --set-low-power-mode=enabled

You see time etc when taking the device from pocket and double tapping from there takes you directly to apps view.

However none of this changes what is shown in the lock screen, so getting to see battery / cellular info still requires peeking.

(mcetool can be installed via: pkcon install mce-tools)

If by "a duplicate" you mean "an extention", then yes. Otherwise no.

Wake to home screen is equivalent to your PC waking up from a screensaver to a desktop with all windows minimized. Better than a lock screen but still not quite there.
