Hello to the jolla sailors in charge,

maybe all the developers and designers by jolla are currently full in action on their tasks.
It is just an idea, but it could be more fun between jolla and the community, if some opened concepts are turned as challenge to the community.
For example, if it will be needed especially a new hardware, software, app or toh. Community will be asked for the concept, each one of together could bring his concept, with all material that the people could use, workflow,mock-up, test-version, pictures,sketches,descriptions, and so on...
jolla team and community vote for the best concept (or x best ones), and winners could participate to development. And maybe something else more for compensation ( a gold or silver or bronze TOH... lol).

Those kind of challenges could enforce the bound of jolla-team with community, and some concepts could be more adapted to the jolla-community.
Something like the google summer code...

Very nice, but also time consuming, idea! :) It might be most interesting if someone from the community would organise such a thing, with a few prizes provided by Jolla.

@cemoi71: We've done that earlier though not exactly geared at hardware, see this post and this one too. I would appreciate if you actually propose something tangible with examples so we can evaluate feasibility and do it together, thanks!

@Xmasjos that right, but everything is time consuming. the idea is not just to make a challenge for a challenge., but make it bound with a real need.

@eric that fine, thank you for the links. it is quite good if jolla-team already make this kind of experience. seems that i've passed one (i'm quite new).

What do you think about with something tangibles with examples? do you mean a proposal of challenge organisation? or proposal of concept?

Let's go eric! as you ask me for please find my proposal: 1) Jolla present currently just one phone, and we hear about 2 next generation. Maybe we could think about of an evolution of the design. One challenge will ask for a design evolution of it graphical user interface, maybe some new gestures. making something more user-friendly with the same philosophy. People could bring concept as sketches (handmade or with graphic-tools) or power-point-like presentation giving an idea how it's looks like on a situation, every thing that could give a big-picture of their idea

2) closed to the 1st one. by screen wake-up i find the lockscreen every time so empty. the only functional info are clock and some notifications. It could be placed some app links or widget, or other type of infos. I don't know sms, mms, mail texts or rss info, something that could configure, and make this empty place more useful.

3) make the Jolla-app harbour more powerful. information of the apps are just to find in the jolla-phone app. Not possibility to manage it app and take information on the website with the pc like google play. the challenge could propose a better immersion on the jolla-phone and the website account.

4) a toh challenge for people which have some ideas but not the technical and business know-how and money. I've seen a lot of toh ideas on together website, and good one i think. frequently i read ask for the guy of the funkyotherhalf, and he realise it. No critic on him/them, there is a lots of pretty good idea too. But currently the focus is on their jolla-keyboard. And the site could not bring the dream of every one. I think jolla missed their own toh other than just ambience toh.

5) something stronger: a connected object with its app and its user-interface concept (clock,headset,etc...)

other comes afterwards, and other people could add their challenge ideas in other answer please for better overview.

@cemoi71 Great idea! I would also propose for Jolla team to look once more through this list and select some of the items, which could be implemented as an app. Consider some of the features that may be of a big demand among users, but not in the first raw of Jolla's development road map. So this would be a mutual benefit. Jolla would save it's resources for any other more urgent tasks, and all our community would get new great features. People powered! :-)

@rburkhanov sorry for my long reaction on your comment. i don't want to offence you, but it seems to me that you don't really understand the meaning of thread. You give a huge list of reference of needed function bugs and leak. The principe is not to challenge jolla to put things inside the device. but to bring jolla some program which challenge the community to give their own experience, ideas and solutions on needed solutions. Making their ecosystem more community opened, more fun together. i don't know how could i better explain.

@cemoi71 It's ok, I do understand what you are trying to explain and there's nothing offensive in your words, just slightly different point of view. I was not talking about bugs, what I ment was some features people asking for. Some of those features are really in a long waiting list. For example, rington per contact (first asked Dec 29 '13), or a week-by-week view in calendar (Dec 25 '13), or printer support (Dec 29 '13). All three are more then a year old now, lots of people ask for them. Don't think these are bugs. And obviously, for now Jolla just don't have enough resources to implement everything the communitiy is asking for. So what's so wrong to ask developers to make some apps for these requests? And to support those apps with proper testing/advertising/reward? Isn't it a 'solutions on needed solutions' as you say? Is not that what you were talking about in your answer about mostly empty and unused lockscreen?

Anyway, I still support your idea.

you have on one point right. maybe should we wait for a jolla challenge and someone which present one of it. or simply soon could someone present his own solution for one of the issues on the app store. for my part i am not skilled on the programming on sailfish app. want in far future make some app. your list and other could be a source of inspiration, if at this time gives still some of them ;-)
