In general, Jolla phone firmware is (usually) updated the same time a new version of the whole operarating system (SailfisOS) or Mer/NemoMobile/Qt/QML-based mobile Linux distribution running in or "powering" the device is relesed and made available as OTA update via Jolla Store.
Since the launch of the J1 device this has happened some ten times and the OS and the firmware is now at 1.1.1.27 (Vaarainjarvi). The exact schedule of the updates has not been communicated, but the intention has been and probably will be, in the future too, for #sailors to keep on updating it several times a year, maybe nearly monthly as was the case last year..
[I know, this might not be exactly the kind of answer the OP was expecting ;) but I just couldn't resist the temptation..]
