Though most native Jolla apps do not support anything other than portrait mode, almost all Android apps in addition to some functions like the native video player support both landscape and portrait mode, and in these apps it would be nice to be able to lock the orientation to either portrait (for most apps) or landscape (e.g. for playing videos) mode.

Update: it would be optimal if there was a system-wide default setting of: portrait, landscape, or locked/unlocked (depending of which tge orientation changes when user turns the phone and a/or individual applications orientation can be set independently of system-wide default

As this relates directly to the currently missing Landscape mode in SailfishOS, I had made a request about this to Jolla Care in Dec 2013, and have already received a reply:

Clearly a known issue and it is in the requirements pipeline. No solid ETA, but you can rest assured it will be included in an upcoming Sailfish update.

So it seems that solution is on it's way and when the device itself can be used the Landscape mode, it is easy enough for QML/Qt apps to controll their orieantation settings (eithere let user choose it, or lock them in Portrait or Landscape mode). You can see that the orientation changing of UI already works in some apps like Tdings (the great RSS feed reader by @pycage), so it seems to just a matter of time when this is possible with all apps in SailfishOS and Jolla UI.

What about setting and locking orientation from plain c++ and not Qt/QML?
