In the MWC demonstration video a "partner-space" is shown besides the home and notification area, containing "toons tv" as a demonstration. Somehow I havent been able to find a good explanation of the rationale and the mechanism behind this.

Is the partner space user customizable? Will custom partner space programs be able to enter the marketplace? Why this name?

As far as I can remember, this is not that "new". In the MWC14 in Barcelona was already shown, together with an Angry Birds (not Stella) and Makia TOH.

Unfortunately, end-users aren't the customers for the partner space, they are the product. Giving vendors a spot to put their wares front and center is something that Android limits, and iOS outright denies, so this is bait to get them to ship Sailfish devices.

Interesting article. I found on https://sailfishos.org/developmentroadmap/ that "Enabler for setting any app as partner space window" was supposed to be implemented in June. I'm not sure whether that means for device manufactures or for everyone (it might also depend on the device).

I'd hope the enabler on Jolla Phone and Jolla Tablet is available to be used by user, running any Sailfish OS or Android app in this space if they want, while I understand if it's not on Intex branded (India specific) devices (as a partner is supposed to have a partnerspace, according to Jolla's new policy). The UI image by Jolla seems to show a gaana android store in that space, while the older cover image shows an Android media player.

@darkestmin it's an internal roadmap, which means there are targets to reach. So I think in june the ability should have been made available for the release candidate 1.1.9.x

I believe that on pure Jolla devices it will be user customizable, but it gives partners from Sailfish alliance option to customize and/or target the device to specific audience.

For example Netflix can sell Netflix tablet, that will have Netflix always running on the partner space giving user incentive of having their favorite streaming service always available. There might be even some price incentive for buying device that is tight together with some partner (similar to Amazon's cheaper Kindle which show adds while device was idle (not sure it is still on sale)).
