Filter for telemarketing calls and commercial SMS's
As you can filter your junk mail, why can't we have similar filters for certain telephone numbers that we know as numbers of telemarketing centers (- or people that we just don't want to discuss with). When the number is in the filter, phone will not even ring and SMS's goes straigth the trash can.
I think this is something Jolla doesn't need to provide. But interfaces needed for someone else to implement it should be provided, if they aren't already available.

I'm surprised that protecting users from major annoyances such as SMS spam (which is on the rise) hasn't yet been addressed by any of the major mobile vendors. You could say that, like email, it's down to the ISPs to filter out the spam, but as that isn't going to happen it's another area in which Jolla could differentiate. That's not to say interfaces as well wouldn't be nice, allowing third parties to build on the stock filtering solution.

@Milhouse Because there are so many interesting solutions to the problem that Jolla would not probably pick the one all people like. I don't mind Jolla implementing it -after- the interfaces are available - letting me and others to implement internet phonebook-based blocking, for instance. Priorisation.
flux ( 2014-01-07 10:14:35 +0200 )editI think this is something that Jolla would need to do - it is related to the concept of custom ringtones, where the app handling incoming calls resolves the number as a specific contact, and then decides how to display the call/message (if at all). Giving this sort of control to a third party is probably not a good idea.
