I'm running on 1.1.6.27 and I noticed that battery has started to run out rapidly. I checked memory and CPU consumption with Memory app. and noticed that although there are no apps open other than Memory, battery level keeps decreasing. When I check the RAM consumption I notice that google-contacts-client eats approx. 45MB RAM and consumes almost 82% of CPU.

I don't know how to stop this process other than restarting the device (when it probably restarts). In my google-imported contacts I have several connections with tens or even hundreds of duplicates. Perhaps the two things are somehow related.

Feature request-part of this message is to automatically remove complete duplicates from contact list.

Restarting didn't help; after restart google-contacts-client consumes over 92% of CPU. No wonder my battery gets warm during the day :-(

One idea might be to remove the account, reboot, add account and resync

chemist, could you specify which account in particular do you mean and where (device/google/)?

I am no google guru, but it is either your google account or you have google play installed and gservices is messing up, if so you can simply turn off alien-dalvik (android-support) and see what happens... if it is still there then it is the accounts.

I switched off Android support from System > Utilities and rechecked CPU consumption and google-contacts-client uses over 76% of CPU.

This appeared after the latest update. hopefully some of the developers get this and get it fixed since the battery lasts now about half a day without any real use.

I have just had the same problem for 1-2 weeks. Also on 1.1.6.27:

I worked around the problem this way: settings->accounts->Google and disabled sync of contacts. rebooted the phone

And now I don't have this battery killer process any more. I also don't have syncing of contacts - but now my phone can last more than 12 hours on a battery charge

What about adding google contacs as cardav ressource as replacement? Or there the same issue?

@fuzzdk please remove the Google account on the Jolla, and then use Google's "Remove duplicates" option in their Contacts Web Application in your web browser, and then re-add the account on the device.

If the problem continues for you, then please follow the steps I gave in my last comment in the thread above, to get logging output from the device, and send those logs to me, so that I can investigate.

Thanks, Chris.

I have a similar issue on 1.1.9.28. Removing duplicates either has no effect or keeps the issue at bay for a day or two. As soon as Google sync starts, the cpu load is stuck at about 50%. Also Google account saying it's not logged in seems related. Disabling messaging has little or no effect.

I will try to produce logs as instructed by chris.adams.
