In the German IT newsticker GOLEM (refering to the Manager-Magazin) there was a article today that Nokia plans to build new smartphones and looking for partners to produce them. Nokia also wants to license their brand. First phones are expected not before 2016. Until end of 2015 Microsoft owns the name rights for smartphone segment and until end of 2023 for all other phones.

Not necessarily - might a future Nokia phone be offered with Sailfish OS?

I understood they are planning to design devices, not to manufacture. Kind of "Porsche Design". No factory, no marketing, only engineering.

@objectifnul, correct, except for the part of "engineering". I think there will not be really that much design and engineering included, just licencing.

What this means, is that that OEM will design and manufacture the phones, and just stamp "Nokia" on the front panel

When Nokia recovers full ownership of their brand, it's understandable they try to make it profitable. However, as they still have technical skills in the mobile industry, I think it would be wise to add some technical input into the business, not just branding.

I have to admit, I really don't care much about the hardware SFOS will be running on as long as it is good. I care much about SFOS, though. And it would deserve a phone of way better quality. I would pay for it!

No way that they offers devices runing SailfishOS, they have to much fear to fail again. So they will choose the simple way - Android + Z Launcher

So they have no risk.. So they will do.. So we will see..

May be, but it´s better that Nokia go it´s own way. They past the chance on Maemo, they past the chance on Meego, they killed the Nokia Linux Mobile Devision. And now we should dream to get back to the mother who let us die? Not really, it´s better to be small and independend! That´s my opinion

Agreed, no hard feelings, as economy has its own dynamics.

@evo3de: you are right. But on the hand Jolla itself said they wantedto focus on the OS instead of the hardware or a apple like hardware-software combi. So in the long run Jolla needs hardware manufactures which are open to alternate OS. In this scenario Nokia could become a strong hardware partner...

@ M.Bin. But Nokia is not going to be a hardware partner. They no longer have the capabilities to produce mobile phones in large scale, as most of the factories have been decommissioned or transferred to Microsoft.
