Good Morning Jollas, I have been waiting impatiently in the outskirts of the outskirts. Looking for clues, riddles and trying to solve the mystery...but without result. I have been waiting, reading and waited some more…

Now, I feel it is time to ask you a direct question: What is going on with the information flow regarding the tablet lately?

It was more than 2 months since last blog post regarding tablet and also wrote that we would get some info about the screen in a new blog post @ blog.jolla.com? please go and read the questions and answers in your old blog posts as well.

Also, What is going with you loan program? Active or inactive? would also be good to say something about this?

I don’t really care when you deliver the tablet since I’m supporting you and know you are doing you best every day! But since, it’s a crowdfunding campaign, I feel that information flow is a bit more important than for other products that you might developed/developing since this a crowdfunding campaign and we’re the crowed. I want to be involved or rather...informed.

Here is a link to your blog incase you forgot ;) https://blog.jolla.com/jolla-iteration-4/

Hope to see an information update any day now.

Agreed! Crowdfunding is working together with those who fund. Jolla could look at and learn from how Dirk, Kimmoli and Andrew managed that in their TOHKBD campaign. Time for DIT to step in on this Sailors!

I'm also getting a little concerned that July starts this week and we've heard nothing yet. I know they're busy, but a quick: "We're on track" or "We're not on track" would be nice to hear.

I don't mind either way (well I do, but I'll wait). But I think communication could be a little better.

Fully agree... just a short update about the status and expected schedule would be enough for sure...

I totally agree. It's not a problem if you have to postpone shipping for whatever legitimate reason, something like this is to be expected in a crowdfounding campaing. The real point here is communication or better lack of communication. We as the "Crowd" gave you quite a bit of money to work on this project, and I think we can expect to at least be informed about the progress / status.

Not only about the tablet itself, but also about the Sailfish 2, and when to expect it available for the phones.

nick75 ( 2015-07-02 14:53:09 +0300 )edit

@nick75 most of 2.0 is already there you just don't recognize it as you are expecting visual changes like a new events-view and new lock-screen, 2.0 is a marketing term just like 1.0 was.

@chemist, no I don't expect any major visual changes from SFOS2, but being a big upgauge in version numbers, I expect a lot of blogs and news and other stuft that is pure marketing ... But so far ... nothing of that kind is posted.

I just want to clarify one thing; I’m not requesting a fixed release date, release plan or fixed spec but rather a continuation of the base information blog posts related to jolla iterations as you already stated but for some reason just stopped. Basacally, what happend in iteratation 5? and 6?

  • Development,Hardware,Jolla Tablet December 17, 2014 by Carsten Munk Hardware adaptation team – Day Zero: bootstrapping

Community,Development,Events,Sailfish OS February 16, 2015 by Marc Dillon Road to Mobile World Congress 2015 – iteration 2

March 19, 2015 by Marc Dillon Jolla iteration 3: finalizing the first Jolla Tablet demo

April 23, 2015 by Juha Paakkari Jolla iteration 4: news about Jolla Tablet shipping schedule and more

May 28, 2015 by noone yet... Jolla iteration 5: What happend with iteration 5 and 6? nothing?

I also find it slightly strange that noone from jolla participate/answer this topic here at together.jolla

All of you that reading this...Take care and have a nice day!

I begin to fear that the tablet will take an end like the Ritot or CST-01 :( No updates are definitely not a good sign.

This way of communication with customers & supporters is really sad. Seems like all this "unlike" stuff is nothing more than a marketing for Jolla. Every time they need our support they raise this "unlike" and "together" flags. Every time we need their support (spare batteries, numerous basic (!!!) feature requests, requests for paid apps support in Jolla store, now — info on tablet/SFOS 2.0 development) there's a Great China Wall of silence with just a few rare and mostly uninformative posts from Jolla people (something like "we are thinking of it" and "we can't say anything more at the moment").

Sorry to say this, but you are loosing my support now. I can't help the feeling I should not pre-order the tablet.

Dear Jolla, please respond before the supportive community turns negative. We understand if there is a delay. Just let us know. No point in calling it the crowdfunded tablet if the crowd who funded has no clue what's going on.

What makes you think there is another delay? It's not even end of July. If lack of frequent information meant delays or problems, companies like Apple or Samsung wouldn't have released any products at all. :)

Yes, they really should respond. This was their promise 23.4.: "We'll be sending you regularupdates by email, in the Jolla Blog, on together.jolla.com and through our social media channels. Stay tuned!"

I fully agree with you; I bought/preordered/.. this tablet without any tests/reviews, because thought it will be different. I believed if anybody have a good idea he/she can write it down here and if it is a good idea jolla try to implement it (or give a reason why they cant or dont want to implement it). I understand that the HW changes are difficult and expensive, but there is a lot of SW suggestion in this site, but the answer mostly was the default "we maybe think about that"... And the display change... "we want to offer you the best possible hardware, we chose to switch to a new display. This display is better than the original" without any data/specification it seems like only a marketing trick. I thought a lot about purchasing a jolla phone, but because these things i changed my mind...

Maybe they make an excellent tablet, but without good communication and a good community it will be only one of the tablets.

"Sorry to say this, but you are loosing my support now. I can't help the feeling I should not pre-order the tablet." I feel the same, sadly!

I crowdfunded this tablet because I was looking for a new tablet, have been a Linux user for years and hoped that this would be a nice piece of hardware to install kubuntu on in case I didn't like sailfish os. I've preferred open software for a long time and jollas claims of openness, togetherness and "unlikeness" convinced me that I could support this and wait a while for the new tab. Instead of just getting one off the shelves like the nexus 9. But the information source to us seems dried up, nothing is available as to when it will be shipped, apart from the notification that it will be somewhere after my vacation :( At this point I really hope it wasn't just a scam :/ I played with the idea of getting a jolla phone but the way they are handling this discouraged me from the purchase. Please jolla don't make us regret supporting you.

what is it with all the negativity? You do see constant changes being make in roadmap, don't you? they are working really hard on OS, so why would any problems with hardware cancel production (what problems could even be? Almost every one nowadays can manufacture tablet)? Delay? Yeah, probably.

Bankrupt? Are you guys insane? They've got several millions of investment money this spring.

I think this is one of those questions/topics that keeps feeding itself. Since the latest information is that the shipments will start by the end of July, why is people thinking otherwise? I really don't get it, as you said, the roadmap is being updated and it seems progress has been made, so why panic? Because we are so anxiously waiting for the tablet and when one person posts something like:"Hmm.. There's something probably... maybe... perhaps... or might be out of place, I have a bad feeling... Then it's a snowball effect ready to roll. Just stay calm people. The tablet is coming! At this point I'd say that no news is good news. :)

raketti ( 2015-07-06 09:04:27 +0300 )edit

Afaik they haven't shipped the dev loan tablets yet (see Iekku's comment here in 26th June: https://blog.jolla.com/jolla-tablet-developer-device-loan-program-starting-soon/), so it's pretty safe to assume that there may be some additional delays.

As a dev I would really like to know the timetable to be able to allocate some of my limited free time for developing and porting existing apps to the tablet...

a) No information is also information
b) other well-funded kickstarter/indigogo projects have failed
c) Promises to keep updated about the (especially) the Tablet
d) Developer Tablets apparently not shipped yet

Here we are, an update! https://blog.jolla.com/july-jolla-tablet-update/

EDIT: it doesn't give us more info about timing unfortunately :-/

Our end-July shipping target may be affected by the extra work necessary to complete the display switch

Not really an answer, but a possible reason for the silence I'd like to discuss: What will happen to the collected money, if Jolla went bankrupt? What are the chances that this will happen? If this will not be denied shortly, we can probably assume that this is the case.

they delievered a phone... no real reason to doubt the tablet is not coming. Despite some hectic self inflicted bean counter rumors at TMO. Oh my god, the promised blogpost #5 is still missing, i don't know a developer who got one of that fabled loan devices, they must be bancrupt :( Yes, more communication would be nice. Beeing a small company myself i can abreviate how hard it is to satisfy everyone, everytime. I trust them to communicate major changes, which they did. Take the latest marketing speak literal "shipment starts end of july". So i expect them to send the first tablet out on 31st July. Every day earlier would surprise me more than another month delay, announced on 30th of July.

Jolla is alive, they updated roadmap recently, they posted to the blog (just not about the tablet), and there are fresh news regarding Sailfish OS.

Hysteria does not bring anything forward, let's be a bit patient.

It is very clear now that Jolla has a major problem with the tablet. Jolla this problem will only get bigger if you remain silent because we, your funders are becoming very agitated due to your lack of respond. Said something PLEASE!

"Very clear"? Based on what? The lack of constant flow of information about the progress of the tablet?

'No news is good news' used to mean something, although I am not all for just completely shutting up about everything (which has not even happened, in this case). So the original shipping date got pushed a couple of months and there is some promised blog post yet missing, so what. I would understand all this whi^H^H^H complaining a whole lot more IF the date today would say August instead of July.

Could you just concentrate more on the actual facts instead of wild assumptions ranging from e.g. bankcruptcy to major problems without any real proof, thanks. Alas, the topic has become quite boring already and I wouldn't care if I heard nothing about the tablet until I'm holding it in my hands.

BTW the post above is no answer, so please, edit accordingly.

Let's wait for an official statement from Jolla. I hope It doesn't take to long...

Maybe the big problem is just a lot of work to do - and those tiny little obsctacles that show up from time to time and challenge you and your schedule. I guess that is just normal. Anything else would be magic. Explaining all these little problems is merely impossible and communicating then is thus no fun. (Nonetheless (or even more) I woud highly appreciate an official update)

Another guess is that the sailors want to be more convincing with the tablet than with the phone. While the phone is nice (the best I have) it was not overwhelming - at least not in the beginning and thus did not cause exitment. However, Jolla's next product has to be more attractive right from the beginning because the is no "it's just beta" excuse

I for myself find it to be very curious that no Jolla employee has commented in this thread. I guess a simple "we're still alive and working" would satisfy the most of us.
