Hi

I live far out in the countryside, and have always had problems getting any usable network signal there.

I work in one of Denmark's larger cities with very good 4G coverage.

Until the upgrade to 1.1.6/Aaslakkajärvi, I got the signals back as I got closer to a larger city, but now it doesn't see any G signals, even when i arrive at work:

I can send and receive SMS'es but nothing else!

I have seen the question https://together.jolla.com/question/96915/missing-icon-for-network-connection2g3g4g/, but there the phone was connected to another provider, that's not the case here (Telenor DK is my provider):

At first I rebooted to recover, but as it can happen several times a day, that got tiresome.

I also have tried to restart the network connections using the Jolla utilities; that didn't help.

I now have found that to reactivate my network I have to reselect my provider:

I have this issue with Elisa (4G (Super) contact) in Kotka, Finland and it has mainly happened at two places:

at home where there should be full 3G (but is some fewer), sometimes the network disappears or becomes 2G or requires reboot to do that.
at aunt's cottage in island which had a little bad coverage, but all other phones than my Jolla had some kind of network connectivity.

I haven't tried reselecting the provider, but restarting networking with Sailfish Utilities doesn't work for me either. Also sometimes when this happens, the whole connectivity bar is empty and won't return without reboot even in city centre.

I had the G-Icon disappear when I was roaming and had data connection and data roaming deactivated. Since I could use the phone for making calls and send SMS/MMS just fine, I did not pay it any attention though.

I should probably specify that I haven't roamed or been anywhere so close to the border.

The 2/3/4G is only shown if it is possible to have mobile data connection, eg. it is not shown if the device is roaming and user has not allowed mobile data to be used while roaming.

If the device is not roaming and 2/3/4G sign is not shown then there might be a temporary issue with the operator for example.

OK, I can accept that there can be problems with the operator (at least in the country side where there are almost no coverage), but then it shouldn't help to re-select the operator it's already connected to!

It is as if the phone gets in a state it cannot get out of by itself.

Are there any logfile which can tell us whets going on?

You can get the rild log with:

/system/bin/logcat -b radio -v time |tee logcat.txt

Anyway, it is the modem which reports to rild/ofono if there's possibility have an mobile data connection and I don't really have visibility to proprietary modem code so I can't tell if there's some nasty issue not retrying the data connection after x mins of failure.

This problem seams to have disappeared after one of the last updates, not sure which one, as the problem was intermittent.
