Cleaning up together - please join

There's currently some cleaning to do in our portal, and as we use this together, we could Do It Together:

1. Sorting the almost duplicate posts

Please provide here, as an answer, a list of closely related questions (linked). Via discussion (commenting the answer) we could find out which questions in the list should be closed as duplicates, and is there relevant information which could be moved under the same question. To get the discussion easier, it would be useful to add the following information to the answer: - simple list of links, showing the url (from which both the title and the number, telling about the age, could be seen) - number of votes given so far to that question - basic information about the activity in the question (e.g. if it's commented/answered a lot)

2. Reducing the amount of tags

Please provide, as an answer, a list of tags which are close enough for each other, and might be united as one. Via discussion, this one tag would be selected as the correct one, and questions with other tags could be retagged. Refer to wiki https://together.jolla.com/question/8466/together-howto-tags/ to find out more about this.

3. Clarifying of a single question

No need to answer here, but here's what you can do if you have the time and the energy:

  • Check that the questions you read anyway are tagged and titled correctly. Retag/edit/comment when needed.
  • If you run into a question that can't actually be answered at all, comment that to the writer or convert the question as a wiki (edit -> mark with "community wiki")
  • Check the answers which seems more like comments, and ask the writer to think about converting it. Also, I've seen a few comments that could be edited as good answers - comment for those too (you also make the writer happy, as you value her/his comment high via suggesting that)

Cleaning up is usually done by moderators, but here we could implement some DIT to help each other - there's actually quite a lot of work in this, and we have also caused it together :) However, Jolla is also nominating some new moderators soon.

For these, please open a discussion here instead, so the community can give a word in advance. In every case (fixing typos, removing duplicates, working after discussions here), please report your contribution as a comment, as the back-end (suggested tags) must be cleaned separately by moderators.

Code-of-conduct! Before merging duplicates / changing existing tags (due to the disagreements already happened):

    • Suggestions (formatted as "Answer") should be listed here for at least 2 working days to see what comments they get.
    • Thereafter, answers should be revised according to the result of the comments, for example, making it clear that a certain set of tags should not be merged and stating the reason.
    • Wait another working day before you start editing tags and check what the discussion is. If previously there has been a lot of different ideas and comments, you may even ask that a moderator gives the go-ahead.

Cleaning up is usually done by moderators, but here we could implement some DIT to help each other. There's actually quite a lot of work in this, and we have also caused it together :) However, Jolla is also nominating some new moderators soon.

Cleaning up together - please join

There's currently some cleaning to do in our portal, and as we use this together, we could Do It Together:

    1. Sorting the almost duplicate posts (why is this important?)

Please provide here, as an answer, a list of closely related questions (linked). Via discussion (commenting the answer) we could find out which questions in the list should be closed as duplicates, and is there relevant information which could be moved under the same question. To get the discussion easier, it would be useful to add the following information to the answer:

    • list of links, showing the url (showing the title, sorted by number which tells about the age). Numbered list preferred, to enable commenting on the numbers (e.g."IMO #4,#7 and #10 could be merged under title...")
    • number of votes given so far for each question
    • possibly some information about the activity in the question (e.g. if it's commented/answered a lot)

    2. To achieve a meaningful, clear, intuitive and shared notion of set of tags

Retagging can be done by anyone, anytime. Typos and obvious duplicates are easy too, but merging of any existing tags shouldn't be done too lightly - there might be a reason for the difference.

Edit: Building up the wiki due to lot's of activity here (Thanks for contributing!). Previous section 3 moved here as a new answer, and replaced with direct links to benefit the contributing here.

    1. Direct links to the discussions - Welcome along!

Each answer here starts a new discussion. Discussions conserning tags are coloured red, discussions conserning closely related questions are in plain text (black). Please edit the list when you add a new answer / change the status, and please contribute by taking part to the ongoing issues.

Retagging can be done by anyone, anytime. Typos and obvious duplicates are easy too, but merging of any existing tags shouldn't be done too lightly - there might be a reason for the difference.

    4. Code-of-conduct! Before merging duplicates / changing existing tags:

    • Suggestions (formatted as "Answer") should be listed here for at least 2 working days to see what comments they get.
    • Thereafter, answers should be revised according to the result of the comments, for example, making it clear that a certain set of tags should not be merged and stating the reason.
    • Wait another working day before you start editing tags and check what the discussion is. If previously there has been a lot of different ideas and comments, you may even ask that a moderator gives the go-ahead.
    • Report all retagging with a comment, so that moderators can cleanup the back-end (otherwise unused tags are shown in the list of choises when tagging a question)
