Anyone got Android notifications (sound and RGB LED) in the Björnträsket release to work? I have enabled the background data feature but still Whatsapp and Snapchat etc. does not notify me.

EDIT: This was one of the highlights of this update. "Having the option to run Android applications on background enables receiving notifications for Android messaging apps even when the app is closed."

I mean, how did you get the app working in Alien Dalvik since they are issues with Google Play Services...

Same here, not working properly. Worked a while after upgrade but not any more.

For Whatsapp there is an official Howto from Jolla at Zendesk: https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203442828-Setting-up-WhatsApp-for-Android-on-your-Jolla-device

in the recent update "whatsapp" doesn't appear the "apps" tab in settings

And neither does skype. Both Whatsapp and Skype are the programs that I waited this feature for and now both of them are not select-able in apps list.

you might need to install https://openrepos.net/content/coderus/android-notifications install it and configure it. After that your Android Apps should notify you.

If it's still not working try the way described here: https://together.jolla.com/question/106247/bug-11728-wechat-android-notifications-not-working-since-11728-answered/ (Google translator is sufficient to understand the steps)

Coderus with his Android Notifications solved the problem once again. I tought the developers at Jolla fixed this feature by default for this release...

Thanks for the tip as I saw he had published a new version of the tool that worked for this release.

If your problem has been solved, please close the question. Although, I don't see this as a solution, when you need a 3rd party app to get something working which should be functional in a release in the first place.

What I posted is a valid solution. If you look in the official Jolla guide for whatsapp they even suggest an additional Android solution to do this. And the new update never claimed to give full notification support. It just allows Android apps to run in the background. So that, if a 3rd party app is present, you get notifications all the time. And not just when the app is actively running. So if you want notifications either use coderus app which is SailfishOS native and perfectly integrated or install any Android tool (like Zedge, which is mentioned in the Jolla guide).

@raketti: Another point is, I really don't understand why you downvote my answer even though my suggestion of a 3rd party tool is the best solution currently working.

@blubd1bub - the problem is with the current release and Android support. The OR app for notifications has worked for a while, but it's not a solution. Not all are willing to install stuff from OpenRepos, so a more official approach is needed. If there's a bug in the Android notification system in the current release, a bug needs to be opened and a solution from Jolla is needed. Not a third party app to go around the issue, thus leaving everyone else with the problem.

Edit: But if it will make you feel better, I removed the downvote.

It has never been working "out of the box". The app by Coderus fixes the missing feature. The app is also present in Jolla Store or "Harbor".

That's not a SailfishOS issue, you should open a bug in github for that.

Also, this is not an answer, please convert to a comment.
