Hi,

  1. It would be nice to be able to navigate, to the previous or next page, by pulling to the left and right with the finger like it is done inside the menus in the OS.

This, so much. Given how much swipes are a part of Sailfish, I was pretty surprised this wasn't the case already when I initially got my hands on the device.

If webpage is zoomed out to 100%, swipes/ left/right inside the window should browse the page history forward/backwar - Even that fruit company managed to implement this feature correctly for their browser for iOS7.

I try doing that sometimes and it takes me a while to figure out that it's not the right command.

I've been using a gesture based browser called Dolphin on my Jolla, and I feel that the SailfishBrowser could implement a lot from that:

  • Side menus on both sides (opens with swipe from close the border)
  • Personal gestures can be attached to favourites
  • Customizable user agent (I've already set mine to act as a SailfishBrowser)
  • Great settings for privacy (Haven't found APK for Dolphin Zero yet, thou. Please comment if you do)

Maybe a late reply but you can find APKs of Dolphin Zero in some people's app stores on Aptoide, I don't know if those are the latest versions or anything though.

I agree. Here's my suggestion for how this could work:

  • Dragging inside the browser primarily pans the browser.
  • However, when one of the left/right edges are reached, continuing to drag triggers "forward/back in history" actions, with the corresponding page fading in (similar to navigating in Sailfish apps) (note that this requires storing some kind of screenshot in memory for history items).

Combined with the double-tap to unzoom action, this makes for some very neat history navigation I believe, even after having zoomed in (double-tap and drag right, vs. summoning the bottom-bar and pressing the back button). There should probably be a bit of friction when the edge is reached to avoid accidentally triggering the back/forward actions, though.

It could function like the pulley menu does today - when you reach the top of the list the pulley menu isn't activated in the same motion as the scroll - you have to release and pull again to activate the pulley menu. Same for when you reach the browser edge when panning - you just release and pull again to activate the back/forward action. Same functionality could be implemented for going back from other panning views, like zoomed in mail view.

Yes, that would be nice. I imagine usually one would use the history functionality when fully zoomed out, in which case the difference doesn't matter, so requiring a second pull seems okay to me.

I think it should be flicking to the sides for navigation, pushing to push browser aside, and pulley to close/open new tab.

Here's a good thread on making browser more geasture based: https://together.jolla.com/question/42425/feature-request-a-more-gesture-based-web-browser/
