I got my Jolla eary 2014. Now I dropped it and the screen cracked (shattered). I contacted Zendesk and this is their response: "Currently we are unable to accommodate your out of warranty repair request for display replacement. We will close this request for now while we are working to resolve this situation, and once we have more information we will follow-up on your request. Thank you for your patience!"

Is there another channel to get a screenrepair from germany?

Regards Thilo

That is not a warranty issue, it just a general lack of replacement parts (especially screens). If you can wait, they maybe can change it in some weeks or months. My screen was broken too ;)

yes, but i assume they do prioritize parts for warranty cases, so your chances are better if you are in warranty. Thats why the topic. Guess i have to wait..

Not really a good chance, but maybe Optima Service has some displays left? If you grow desperate maybe you could ask while supplying a heartwrenching story?: https://www.here.com/finland/helsinki/business-services/optima-service-oy--246jx7ps-4ec4d5f77d96049b58c539520b071c44?map=60.22011,24.87254,16,normal&x=ep

@tlo as it seems that you are from Germany, you are still within normal warranty time (EU consumer protection is 24 months regardless of any warranty notes by a reseller, in our case manufacturer), a dropped phone is always out-of-warranty. For example, a warranty case would be if your phone had a degrading display.

Wow! You are a jokster. Thanks for changing the subject to a real helpful advice :-) But it didnt reflect my orginal point. The point is if my display breaks within warranty (in a non-drop event), say the yellow spots or whatever, but covered by the warranty, i would get a repair because Jolla is legaly bound to. As parts are short they are prioritzed for warranty cases. Therefore if your out of warranty you are out of luck, and thats why there is ^h^h was a warranty reference in the title.

I got news from zendesk. They are positive to come up with something by the end of tomorrow.

I live with a cracked display since a year now. :/ Some years ago with n9 same situation. there I guess I invested luke 170€. I am relatively sure price gonna be in the same area. Then it is better to just buy a new one. I maybe still would do this if they again drop the price to 199. Unlikely with the knowledge of small stock.

Anyway.. pls let me know about the news / price. New jolla device (if i stick to) seems far.

If its was a single crack i would probably do the same but its shattered and looks like spidermans phone now, and while still working it doesnt feel very comfortable i really dont like the idea of a pocket full of of spiky glassshards. I keep you posted, but reading the comments and answers i dont get my hopes too high.

they could be a cool company in giving out discounts in those cases people just been hit by a bad (non existing) repair support. I'm not talking about gifting but just at a price that isn't high above their costs.

Dropping your phone is never a warranty case. Unfortunately there are no free roaming spare parts for the Jolla1.

I do not expect a dropped phone to be a warranty case.

Your question title does.

I changed the title to be (hopefully) more descriptive. My point is not to get a free repair. My point is to get a repair at all.

I removed the warranty reference...

Wouldn't be better something like "Shortage of out-of-warranty displays"? "Don't drop your phone" is a good advice, but I think we all here know that's something we should avoid to do :)

And now you tell me!

I dropped mine two weeks ago and cracked the glass. The good people of Mobylife (former Optima Service) in Helsinki, Finland made it okay for the price of 105 euros. With mailing from and to Finland it was an 8 day gig. The Zendesk gang knew to tell me of them.

I have a flap cover for my Jolla now.

So, I would contact them at huolto@mobylife.fi , and get a confirmation that they do it and the price estimation, and ask if they accept post from abroad and get the info on packing & service order.

They have online tracking by your IMEI or serial number for the repair. I noticed that when it goes to the operating table they'll only check it up first and then inform the needed service and it's price to you and only after that service it, so you may save a day if you mention in your order that you have already have the price estimation and authorize them to do the repair on that price.

Thanks for confirming that Optima/Mobylife is still doing the job. From where did you send it to them? Within finland or from an other country?

I'm from Finland and naturally sent from there. But Germany should be doable, the postage back from Finland may be hefty though.

I'd contact huolto@mobylife.fi and check it with them and confirm the price.

not for me at this time, but i think the OP @tlo would be interested if Jolla does not come up with a solution tomorrow ;)

I dealt with the Finnish customer service though, and mentioned Mobylife myself first (to ask if they do it still as their pricelist for Jolla had gone 404), so it's possible that the English customer service are different people and didn't have that info ready at hand. It is the official repair shop nevertheless.

teemu ( 2015-09-21 21:18:30 +0300 )edit

If you add shipping costs you are really fast at 150+€ which isn't worth to pay for a used Jolla anyway. 105€ is really the asolute maximum I maybe would pay after thinking about. My device is a first one (soon 2 years), battery is weaker and so on. Surely in general everything else is fine.

In my opinion this repair in finland (if they do it) can't be an option for us.

Hey fellow Thilo :)

Just wanted to note that I second your frustration. My baby daughter dropped my Jolla phone, cracking the screen in the process. Got over it, and at some point I just settled with ordering a fresh Jolla, now in service for about a month, and my frustration is gone. It's not the cheapest of work-arounds for this problem, though.

Hi Thilo, jep, looks like thats the only choice to get a working Jolla in time. Thanks for your participation :-)

tlo ( 2015-09-21 14:04:49 +0300 )edit

Any idea bout price difference of ordering new phone ( 249 Euro + transport cost) vs shipping to Jolla for out of warranty repair? I suppose the new phone is at 100 Euro more expensive but then you have a bunch of spare parts in the old phone.

Actually, I find the screen-broken Jolla quite the capable embedded system to play with. Turns out a dual core CPU and ~800MBytes of RAM are a lot of power when you don't run a GUI :) And I didn't even start playing with the camera, flashlight, mic, speakers, GPS, etc. yet.

Hmmmmm.... tempting..
