Will the latest move by jolla, "Sailfishing" the Fairphone offer enough reasons / sense for you to invest ?

► Official poll by Fairphone : "Which [OS] will make you get a #Fairphone2?"

Maybe consider leaving a vote there, while active ....

Converted your answers to Wiki's as it's not a good manner to create a poll and gather karma points from the voted options. :)

And also what @Sthocs said. :)

Thanks ! I'm contributing under tight time constraints - so I'm learning by doing ;) ... thanks for your help indeed :) ! Maybe it's good to merge 2 of the replies given by @nick75 and @till as comments to Option [D] .... would I be allowed doing this ?

launchpad ( 2015-10-23 13:38:20 +0300 )edit

@launchpad, i don't think merging the three is good, they cover differnet aspects. [D] is still HW related. My suggestion, is more of the OS itself and the native apps running in Sailfish - regardless which phone you actually. Btw, I have converted my answer to wiki. Regarding answer by @till it is more closer to your [D], but I leave to @till decide.

If a Fairphone 2 Edition with Sailfish OS instead of Android would be sold officially (including warranty and android app support) I would go for it

If I understood correctly, they are working on getting the port to a level where they can officially support it, so yes, your (and mine as well, since I too want this) hopes are (semi-)high. :)

I am looking for a replacement for my Jolla (been living with a scratched camera too much), and this could be the product I am looking for. I would be paing for its full price, even two months ahead, but only with a working SailfishOS port.

I will go a step forward. I bought one and i will support the community by installing and testing the community version (when i get the phone). I hope, later it will works got enought to get an official support from Jolla.

gabs5807 ( 2015-10-25 20:43:11 +0300 )edit

I have bought a PuzzlePhone during their campaign in good faith that there will be a community SFOS at least for that devices as I am convinced that the two companies and the device itself are a perfect match. Now that I have bought that phone, my budget is exhausted for a year or two, but otherwise I would go for the fairphone2 for sure, without hesitation. I think it is pretty much an equally good match to the Jolla community.

Maybe. Depending on further communications by jolla explaining more specifically future support & development for the Fairphone and 3rd party devices ...

I will wait how the porting is going to progress. The Fairphone 2 brings good hardware, but coming at 530€ it is also not a cheap gadget I get just to play around with. If SailfishOS runs fine on the phone, I will most probably get one.

Big question is : Will it have a licenced alien dalvik ? ie : Will we be able to run android software ?

@hwesselmann, same here, if/when it comes officially supported and a full OS experience, then I will seriously consider if no other option is available thus far.

If it is really full supported I get one. But I learned from past "cooperations" that they often end in nothing.

Maybe I will order one simply out of curiosity ... let's see how long it'll stay in my desk's drawer until I can Sailfish it :| ... due to jolla's limited resources and no information about any timeline. I'm also worried about if features such as dual SIM support will be integrated seemlessly into the UI. They should, but I can't "force" them ;) ....

Yes, definitely yes ! A dream combination. I could live without jolla-concepts such as TOH.

Acutally, the Fairphone seems to have an accessory port, similar to the IC2 port that enables TOH on Jolla...

The guy that did the keyboard cover for Jolla also makes covers for Fairphone so I can imagine him making a Fairphone 2 version of that.

Yes, I think it's a Fair combination and I totally support the Fairphone ideals. Also Sailfish is just like the Fairphone from a European company which I like more then the big boys from overseas.

But the Fairphone needs to be fully supported, not half way like most of the devices from this list.

It needs to have Android support for me(and a lot of new customers) and needs te be updated just as fast as the J1 and tablet.

But it sounds promising in my ears.

I will wait and see how the Sailfish OS itself and its ecosystem will progress.

Currently, I am way closer jumping ship and switch to another ecosystem, than staying with any device running Sailfish.

This. Before I can consider buying another Sailfish phone, I'd first have to see at least some strong signals that Sailfish 2 is eventually going to become a good phone OS again.

What ecosystem are you thinking about moving too?

etsoy ( 2015-10-25 01:24:38 +0300 )edit

@etsoy, it is a generic voting option for people who is thinking of moving on to any other OS than staying with Sailfish.
