Stuck on 1.1.7.28, cannot update anymore [answered]

As the title says, I cannot upgrade from 1.1.7.28 to 1.1.9.28. Also, I cannot activate developer-mode, thus I am not able to do an ssh-access to the phone. I can do a backup but I am not able to find the backup-files (from windows-os) to move them to a safe place - to proceed with a factory-reset.

Any hints ?

Thomas

Please give a pointer if you are getting any errors when trying to update. With the information you are providing there's a lot of guessing to be made such as:

  • are you perhaps getting an error message "Could not determine the size of update"? Since there's been sightings of similar problem, although seems to mostly been when upgrading from 1.1.9.28 to 2.0.0.10.

  • Or what about the problem with the developer mode. Getting an error message "Problem with Store: Could not install jolla-developer-mode"?

Or something else perhaps?

Here's one discussion that might have something to do with you also.

There is no message at all. After a while the phone says: 'aktuell' - I have a german gui and don't know the correct english word for 'this is the up-to-date version. But this is of course wrong.

If i try to enable developer mode the only reaction is an animated bar which never stops....

Another hint: i cannot add another account - the error message says something about an SSL-error and I should check if date and time are correct - which are.

If you don't mind yourself doing so, it is possible to switch the language whenever you want/need. It doesn't break anything :) If anything, that way you are able to give the exact error in English without having to guess.

You've been waiting how long/long enough for the developer mode to be enabled? For me it takes maybe 2-4 minutes to display a message of the problem that the developer mode can't be nstalled.

Do you have a spare Micro SD Card? You could move the back to the SD card (via pulley menu in backup program), then remove the SD card , doublecheck on a PC if backup has been copied correctly moved to SD before performing a factory reset to be safe.

If no SD Card is available, you could try to install File Explorer and FTP Server on your Jolla. File explorer (from Jolla store) to move the backup to wherever you can download the backup via FTP Server. (on any PC Firefox browser + FireFTP addon will do nicely as FTP client) For FTP Server application you will first need to install Warehouse Openrepos client software first on your Jolla. You can Duckduckgo or Google "Warehouse Openrepos" in your Sailfish browser to find the link to where to download the installation file.

Install via File explorer.

This written with easy way to factory reset in mind.

That said, Is being stuck on clean and functional 1.1.7.28 such a bad thing? ;)

Thanks, for the hint with the pulley - I could at least backup the contacts to the sd-card.

Okay, I finaly could conquer this issue:

  1. I could add an account to my private OwnCloud and sync the contacts
  2. and saved the backup to the SD-card (better double any backup)

After factory-reset I saw that the current installed version was rather old (1.1.2.14 or something like that) but I was able to update to 1.1.7.28 and then to 1.1.9.28.

So, the next step is to restore the backup, which I do not think to be complicate (but I have to wait on my wife - it is her Jolla, and she has to walk through the intro to see the new handling/gui).

Thanx for your suggestions. Thomas

Try deleting your Jolla Account and adding it again.

As I do have problems creating accounts I would like to avoid that.
