Which additional quick actions would you like to have?

Since SF 2.0.0.10 you can pull down a panel in events view, where you can place shortcuts and quick actions (Settings -> Events -> Quick actions).

As for now the choice of possible quick actions seems quite expandable imo. Also the new feature to be able to easily change order of all these shortcuts, makes it a natural consequence to have a lot more actions in repertory.

So which additional actions would you like to choose from?

Update by @anandrkris - I guess we need to vote the question as well to garner Jolla's attention. I see more votes for answers. ;)

====
EDIT: For those who are interested, we've got us a couple of working prototypes already, which make good examples of how quick actions are structured and where they are stored. They eventually led to new patches:

There are also some other quick actions by @Markkyboy not requested here, check his apps in OpenRepos.

EDIT: A straightforward HowTo on creating quick actions was kindly contributed by @rgrnetalk.

Nice idea!!! Maybe as Christmast present....but I think that the only way to have the tablets what we paid for is to dream with them.

Toggle: Keep display on. There is an app for that (Stay awake), but I think this functionality should this built-in and would be a perfect fit for a quick action.

  • Change the screen brightness
  • Launch an app (for example a voice recorder or flashlight)
  • Run custom shell script

Screen brightness is already implemented. :)

raketti: how? with sailfish 2.0 the brightness has been moved from the first page of the settings to the display subsection.

Open Settings then select Events -> Select shortcuts and tap the Brightness. Ta-daa! You have brightness selection in the Events screen quick actions. :)

If someone from jolla could write a sample quickaction it would be great, to have an "official" way of things.

It is not enough to have it work like a charm IMO; as long as its not given official documentation by Jolla, even if it works, it will be unsupported; meaning it might stop working in the future.

tortoisedoc ( 2015-11-10 22:59:07 +0200 )edit

You are so right. Doesn't stop me from being happy, though. ;)

lakutalo ( 2015-11-10 23:20:02 +0200 )edit

Documentation would be nice indeed. I tried to write one to reboot the phone, but that needs to talk to a system service which none of the examples do. Using the 'remote-service' parameter just fails to find it.

It could exist already though, I don't know every place they keep docs.

Andy Branson ( 2015-11-12 12:45:10 +0200 )edit

Right! The lack of documentation is really the main problem. I cannot enumerate on how many frontiers I was stopped due to an "it could be done, but how?".

No. Just no. No point cluttering "quick" actions with things you can do quicker by other ways. Like tapping a Calculator icon in the launcher.

I tried to find a place where to install a hook for the signal, but I couldn't. Email seems to work differently. Anybody a clue?

lakutalo ( 2015-12-08 00:22:06 +0200 )edit

A little late for the answer, so maybe you already found out.. but in case you haven't, here's some clues (I haven't tried it out...) It looks like the code to create a new email can be found in the file EmailComposer.qml (I think it is found in usr/lib/qt5/com/jolla/email (the search offers more emailcomposer.qml ;-( ) There is however no dbus adaptor in it. So you should add one to it. Then the dbus service and the dbus conf are the easy parts. Good luck!

rgrnetalk ( 2016-03-20 17:42:22 +0200 )edit

I think I have already tried that but I am not 100% sure. Will have a look, thanks!

This feature is almost useless by design. Should offer an open choice amongst all available actions instead of a limited, arbitrary choice.

Define "available actions". In case you did not notice, this whole thread is about that.

In fairness, that is a shortcut, not a quickaction
