My to cents on what i feel after sailing so long time. I´m a proud fan, supporting from beginning.

But now i feel the breeze is turning into a doldrums and the ship is standing still.

Poor customer relationship / communication. TOH is not forced, so a stillbirth. Tablet is dissapointing because it is so slow on delivery (without information who gets when). No or less feedback on Jolla.together from developers. I miss the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) to do it better.

Main goal is only to develop and licence software, but how will you persuade a manufacturer to licence without a flagship on actual hardware?

The Jolla is turning from a rescuecapsule into a leak rubber dinghy.

No word, no news about the "Hardware Company to be founded to the end of year" at slush ´15

Design changes against the will of our community, why no polls or option implimentations?

And many thinks more that makes a gloomy mood about our future.

Jolla quo vadis? Is our ship sinking or will it supprice us with a new fregatte?

You put words to my thoughts! Year 2015 has been big, with the development of both the tablet and SFOS2. But both are now released, from a developping point. And then it's awfully quiet regarding the new HW company. And Slush that traditionally have been used for announcements, was quite medicore to say the least. Hopefully, there are a lot of plans and stuff behind the scene, just waiting to be disclosed. If the current (information) situation is not changed in a near future, I will probably escape myself to another ecosystem.

About the hardware company they said that they will have shareholders meeting about that within a month. And Saarnio said we will hear within a month or so how Jolla fans could get Jolla phones. And most likely it is done collaboration with Intex.

@nick75 I got most of that information from the video from the first link and I think you can't read all the information. So it is in Finnish and I don't know can you watch it outside Finland.

The main source of disappointment lies to the fact that most people expected everything the moment the OS/HW were available. Full features, apps etc etc. The fact remains that building an ecosystem of apps and a full featured OS takes more than 2-3 years.

Not that jolla didn't fuck up a few things -and of course it will again in the future they are humans after all- but the problem was high expectations.

And that brings me to say once more that jolla/sfos (or any other young startup product) isn't for everybody. Those that don't understand that things might not go as planed or want the latest and greatest in HW and apps are better off with an iphone or android or whatever. And it will save the people who actually have the patience from the constant nagging.

As for the future IMO jolla has to work to polish the remaining big issues (missing features) with the OS. New HW will probably come from intex (saarnio was holding a new phone at slush) even though i don't expect it to be what i'd like.

I have been on ship for a year now, joining with the knowledge that it would not be a hasslefree experience. And that is not a problem, but for me personally, there has been more and more problems the last two-three months, and it is not only because of what Jolla has or not has done. The latest torpedo was to find out the the devs of Nokia Here has pulled the plug for Jolla compatibilty - just like other Android apps I use. Other native apps are not on par with official releases of Android/iOS apps, of course this natural with community based apps, which is way slower in implementing stuff. I also have some other hardware, that can't be used together with my Jolla due to missing apps or lacking hardware support. And being stuck with Alien Dalvik on Android 4.1 does not help either. Getting a new phone from Intex or PuzzlePhone, is not any further any solution (to my knowldege) as they have newer hardware than the Jolla phone, but still the same Sailfish. I also miss a lot of inter-app functionality between my installed Android apps, that just work out of the box seemlessly on my Android phone, that I have carry along to do all the things I can't do with my Jolla.

@nick75 that's most likely due to Nokia HERE gotten sold to BMW / AUDI / Daimler. Read : corporate strategy, ergo outside of Jolla's (not so big anyways) control reach.

@pmelas, that is hardly surprising. Most apps did not need updating after an OS update, but most patches did. Also, 2.0 introduced a lot of new things, adding flexibility and opening more opportunities for patches. And lastly, patches are easier to make than apps and offer a good entry level for new developers.

Jolla is a startup; nothing is smooth in a startup. If you have ever worked in one, you know what I mean. EDIT : I do not work for Jolla.

I believe the next 6 months will be key for Jolla's future; especially the Intex launch (when and if it will happen). Until then, I will enjoy the dream and my Jolla, and the luck to own an #unlike phone ;)

PS maybe ill even get my tablet by then ;)

Being one of the first ones and developing for sailfish, you can say I was an enthousiast... I was also in the first 1000 backers of the tablet. But having my only request not fulfilled due to "not everything that was requested can be implemented", it was a bit of a disappointment. Then came the delays, but at least we had the release of SFOS2.0. This version was a large change but very little improvement (If not a deterioration). After using it a while you get used to it, but the gui became inconsistent with swipes everywhere.
More delay and really bad communication around the tablet didn't help and now we have jolla adventures....?

I wish Jolla has a concept of "soon" closer to mine. The company is delaying all the time and becoming open source doesn't seem to be a priority any more.

Apart from that, I consider Jolla the best phone I can have at the moment so I'll stay in the ship. But this situations may change, so stay alert!

The community is something very important for any device and Jolla's is on the best. Go sailors!!

It is a metaphor, yes, but Waan Aelon Kein really sails big seas (like the pacific) faster than the wind. No kidding. It is meant to outsail a storm... I've used my J1 for almost two years and it is faster now than when I bought it. It still does stuff that no iOS or Android device can do (like real multitasking).

...and it's not a prisoner of corporations. It is free to roam any ocean.

To paraphrase Faithless: Tonight Jolla is a Walap.

Google, Apple, etc.have the sparkplugs to your frigate in a firm grip. It's a fine looking battleship but you go where they want you to.

@vattuvarg. Great analogy. In terms of longevity, how long would you be able to continue use it? As for me i dont really see the need to upgrade every year or two. As long as the software makes it optimized i could imagine you could use it for quite awhile.

Who knows whats happening behind all these curtains. The fact is that its difficult to compete with little or almost no marketing in a 'saturated' and by one or two companies dominated market. Well Jolla has not used the chance with TOH-technology but there's a lot of innovation coming from Finland (after Nokia slaughtering) which needs to be put together. Then it is is utterly important to do the things you do well. The launch of the tablet draw a lot of attention from new customers, but the attention is no longer positive the way backers are kept informed (for which you don't need a marketing budget)....!

You may read here what could happen to a ship, overburdened with features and expectations .) Or here, if the skipper is under pressure. Or here, if the skipper is too pride.

As paying passenger I would say: we are still sailing safely(?), so the skippers are doing a good job so far. Navigation is not my scene.
