I'm using the Jolla phone in New Zealand which isn't a country it's officially sold in, so I'll forgive some weirdness, but I'm just wondering if it'd be posible to get 3G connections working here.

I'm on the Spark (until recently Telecom) network, and I can connect to 4G networks fine, but where our 3G network is WCDMA 850Mhz (Band 5) it doesn't see the network at all. Looks like from the specs that the phone only supports WCDMA 900/2100 MHz (Bands 1/8).

Does anyone know if there are plans to enable support for the 850MHz band, or if I'm really lucky, maybe some way to get it working?

unfortunately its a hardware thing, you cant really patch support in for a specific band after the fact.

Looks like Vodaphone do 3G in 900/2100 in new zealand so thats one option.

Thanks, good to get that confirmed anyway. And yeah I noticed that Vodafone should work. I might switch, or I might just put up with it because I'm not out of the city that often anyway.
