Upgrading your devices

This is the usual drill before attempting to upgrade your devices,

  • If you use Phonehook from OpenRepos, uninstall it before upgrading.
  • If you use Patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading.
  • Take a backup of your data before attempting to upgrade your device. A successful backup operation is indicated by a green dot in the UI.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.
  • Do keep the phone connected to a battery charger during the whole process.

For detailed instructions on updating software, visit Zendesk [ https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201836347 ].

If connected to the internet, and your account is subscribed for Early Access releases, your Jolla device should receive an OS update notification shortly.

Known issues

  • Google contact sync may sometimes hang up and drain the battery
  • PC connection mode (MTP) does not work with Windows 10 in all cases
  • In some cases pending updates for store applications or applications installed from 3rd party repositories may block the system update. Installing the application updates first should fix this.

Will the cloud service only be available for Dropbox and OndeDrive users? I have Tresorit, a Swiss/Hungarian cloudservice, encrypted, safe.

Support for MEGA cloud would also be nice :)

Dylan Van Assche ( 2016-01-19 18:53:58 +0200 )edit

native ownCloud integration with Calender sync would be nice (see: ownCloud integration in Gnome)

Yes, caldav is already working and there is an owncloud-ap - but not integrated ;)

hasdf1 ( 2016-01-19 19:21:01 +0200 )edit

@Kea: if the source code isn't distributed under a free license, you have no way to determine whether it is actually secure or not, so you should always assume it isn't. You wouldn't hire someone to put locks on your house if you had no way to verify whether the locks actually work, even if that person might make claims that their locks have never been broken.

For a short list of possible trustworthy alternatives, feel free to take a look at https://prism-break.org/en/all/#file-storage-sync

Remember, there is no cloud, just other people's computers.

nthn ( 2016-01-19 20:27:00 +0200 )edit

we need the old UI of sailfish. or atleast the vertical UI. which had the continuity of it..

Ghost ( 2016-01-19 20:28:16 +0200 )edit

@Ghost: you said this already above, one time is enough! Besides, this is off topic here.

Quoting @ossi1967 here "Re "Android apps can send SMS": I once tried an Android app that didn't work because it needed to receive SMS, which didn't work at that time. Is receiving an SMS (=being notified of an incoming SMS and reading it) still impossible for an Android app? Or did I miss this in the release notes of a previous update?"

I was also hoping this can be done in the future. Giving android apps access to received SMS, especially those that would not show up as a normal SMS on any modern OS (registration SMS for a few services etc.)

I tried to make the o2 voice over wifi app work on SailfishOS, sadly I cannot patch through the confirmation SMS to the app.

ICICI Bank's imobile app (android) also does not work.

Installing the update fails, it claims "installation aborted by user".

Here's an excerpt from /var/log/systemupdate.log: https://gist.github.com/schmittlauch/e2e26e4d9611a305ef7c

update: Although no updates for the apps are displayed, reinstalling the app package using pkcon seems to fix at least this problem.
But for me another problem appeared afterwards, see comments

There is probably an update available for the Meecast application in store, try installing that first and then try the system update again.

This is actually a known issue and we will add it to the list.

Keto ( 2016-01-20 02:49:23 +0200 )edit

happened here too. ssu release was (again) set to latest.

after ssu re the update worked without further hiccups

dmnk ( 2016-01-20 09:49:08 +0200 )edit

There are no updates for Meecast, at least none are shown in Jolla Store or Warehouse app. Nevertheless updating fails.

schmittlauch ( 2016-01-20 20:49:05 +0200 )edit

btw, ssu re already was at after the failed update.

schmittlauch ( 2016-01-20 21:06:23 +0200 )edit

Reinstalling the packages using pkcon (in my case harbour-meecast) at first seemed to fix the problem. But now the update failed at a later point during the update (see log)

I am having a strange problem. I have got the notification for the update and when I click "Start Optimizing" it goes to about 70% and then just quits. I have tried this a few times with the same result. Has anyone faced such a problem before?

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

ya i had the same problem, restarted 2 times, connected and disconnected device to pc at last after trying again optimizing 2-3 times at last done.

vishal ( 2016-01-20 07:59:48 +0200 )edit

also same problem. df shows I have 2.8GB available, but optimizer just quits around 70-80% mark

tetris11 ( 2016-01-20 10:51:39 +0200 )edit

i got the same Problem here, it seems to finish the optimization but then goes back to showing the optimization page as if nothing had happened

simonschmeisser ( 2016-01-20 11:29:38 +0200 )edit

I think this is because the rebalance can't complete. I did one manually a week ago and needed 4.5gb free for it to complete. Someone somewhere else I saw had to free up over 5gb. Once the filesystem gets stuck it often needs loads of room to be able to fix itself. You're probably noticing some weirdness and/or slowdowns in this case. Check out the btrfs rebalance thread for an avalanche of info.

vitaminj ( 2016-01-20 12:56:12 +0200 )edit

ooh hang about! I think you're right - I just now got the notification that the optimization was complete. It had probably finished rebalancing.

Is it too late to patch CVE-2016-0728 in 2.0.1/Taalojärvi ?

Thank you for the new features and also for patching 6 vulnerabilities. This is why I <3 Jolla!

Today Debian released its patch for CVE-2016-0728 which is a serious linux kernel vulnerability and in theory could be exploited on Sailfish OS via a malicious app.

More details of the vulnerability CVE-2016-0728 here: http://perception-point.io/2016/01/14/analysis-and-exploitation-of-a-linux-kernel-vulnerability-cve-2016-0728/

While this concerns the tablet (3.10) phone's kernel is 3.4... did you check if it is vulnerable as it says >=3.8?

chemist ( 2016-01-20 11:40:40 +0200 )edit

good remark @chemist
i doubt that the kernel issue concern jolla for the phone in this case... :-) The tablet indeed... https://together.jolla.com/question/119621/will-there-be-a-linux-kernel-update/?answer=119860#post-id-119860

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-20 12:19:52 +0200 )edit

as it is essentially an android kernel (where 3.4 has seen heavy backporting), I guess that the vulnerable feature may have been backported to Jolla's kernel as well... see https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/41opdo/serious_linux_kernel_vulnerability_patched/

tad ( 2016-01-20 22:40:51 +0200 )edit

maybe more interesting for jollaphone users: will 'Elevation of Privilege Vulnerability in Qualcomm Wi-Fi Driver and Qualcomm Performance Module CVE-2016-0806 [ANDROID-25344453] CVE-2016-0805[ANDROID-25773204] Severity:Critical' be fixed in final release?

This is for Jolla employee. I hope you shall read this. When I and many other people can get working flashlight and cameralight to our phones? I mean that light doesn't work at all. I really hope that you shall make it as a hotfix. I'm still wating for it . It's embarrassing to tell other that our Jolla has that simple failure. And it's important, too. Please, fix it.

Edit for other Jolla together users: please don't vote +1 or -1. This is not a joke, nor is this or not relevant in your opinion. This is just a request for Jolla emloyee.

its working. perhaps your hardware is not working? you should open a new thread for that problem

mettska ( 2016-01-21 07:45:01 +0200 )edit

Er ... the Flashlight app from the Jolla store works fine here.

strongm ( 2016-01-21 10:19:55 +0200 )edit

I can confirm that both the flash when taking photos and the flash-light app from the Jolla store both work following the upgrade on my device.

timearp ( 2016-01-21 11:07:23 +0200 )edit

@ari.jarvio not working flashlight at all is something for Care-> open a ticket please https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new

chemist ( 2016-01-21 13:29:06 +0200 )edit

Also the torch shortcut for eventsview is working still perfect after the update - must be your phone not the OS...

till now there is no problem, but only problem is with browser unable to download any files this problem is from earlier version, and unable to find option to format sd card

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

As far as SD card formatting is concerned, this was just a mistake in initial draft of release announcement.

As far as download in browser is concerned, in my experience it's more or less working, but (i) download is completely silent, (ii) all downloads are named "download(x).html"

soo finishes the Update still works fine except...

there is one big issue (for me): this "uggly" new Button that directs to the Eventview Configuration. Why? or more important: is there a way to remove it? As one now have to swipe down even more to open the shortcuts.

is this update available for ported devices also?
