A Jolla Phone 2?

I'm not asking which ingredients you want ..there are enough threads for it. Of course things like spare batteries are a must..better hardware is automatically thanks to technical evolution.

But Jolla as the hardware seller...or the new Jolla hardware company that we never heard of since it was founded (or isn't it still?)

I personally would like to buy it. Screensize could even stay but I would like that the TOH stays just to have possibilities in comparison to other phone makers.

I think Jolla/ Jolla Hardware should always make one top class phone as reference design, similar to Google Nexus devices..just more unlike and therefore better ;-)

I would be customer again!

If "I would be customer again!" is the question (it is the question, is it?) my answer would be: 42.

Anything else? Ah, well, don't do drugs ...

unfortunately Jolla is so bankrupt they can not even offer spare batteries. And the Jolla Shop looks like soviet union: Empty shelves, everything on display is sold out. Batteries (akkumulators) are not even on display. Good old communismn..... but I like my Jolla anyways. Many design flaws, ok, but not that bad like the Ubuntu phone (which is really far away even from beta testing, IMHO).

So what is the question at all? If Jolla failed to make it? Sure. Now I have it I like it and use it up. No spare parts? Prone to become garbage. What is different from chinese way doing it??

42, I can not see anything that makes sense.

I bought my Jolla about 1 month ago. I have switched from Galaxy Note 2. Although worse specs its software is brilliant. I would definitly buy another jolla as soon as it is released. I really hope that Jolla company will be able to outlast in os battle, because their child, Sailfish, is the most wonderful operating mobile system in the world.

I would buy any new model that comes with SailfishOS pre-installed. (No "community-ports", that is.) It wouldn't make any difference if it's made by Jolla or any other company. There's just no alternative if you're looking for a GNU/Linux phone with a desktop-like distribution. I once thought Ubuntu would be an alternative to Sailfish - until I tried it. Although it's hard to believe for those who complain how many features Sailfish lacks in comparison to Android and iOS: Ubuntu is even worse. So: Yes, I buy a new phone from Jolla,

Yes. May be you prefer to give money to Samsung ? In Netherland, people must do a trial to have support for their phones. In France we have also Archos an Wiko. I'm quite sure that people who buy Achos or Wiko phonez have exactly the same problem : a very bad support. http://www.nextinpact.com/news/98209-une-plainte-contre-samsung-pour-defaut-support-sur-ses-smartphones.htm My "now" old Jolla phone have always support and that's incredible. So yes, i'm ready to give money a ne time for Jolla

You know there are other alternatives, right?

If the problem is the hardware (let's say that the current 5 voters know they won't receive their tablet), there are at least 2 known alternatives : Fairphone 2 and Puzzlephone (those who don't renew their phone every year can wait and are at least part of the target buyers for these).

If the problem is the software (not everyone is happy with SFOS 2), well, that's a problem but some can get back to replicant are another community based android even if not perfect either.

Just for the sake of completeness, I know both of the sentiments since I'm pretty certain I won't get the tablet and have heavily patched SFOS 2 to get closer to SFOS 1 UX but it's still not enough. But even then, I didn't vote for never.

I won't vouch for 'never' in my case, but this whole tablet thing was such a massive let down to me that I would certainly think thrice before buying a Jolla product again.

I'll probably switch to a Lumia sooner or later. Microsoft is certainly the less evil (!!) of the big three, and Windows Phone is actually nice. So sad that BB10 is doomed too.

The problem is not to know if Microsoft, Google, Facebook are evil or not.

The problem it is because you, me, every consumer taken individually, accept by contract, not only to give his private data, but that they can be also run.

Morality it engenders a devastating asymmetric economy.

They are our behavior which engenders the economic crisis.

I prefer infinitely Jolla and Sailfish OS and what my data, if they are exploited(run), that they are him in France and/or in Europe.

mips_tux ( 2016-01-25 08:32:21 +0300 )edit

@mips_tux well told it scary me what you describe. As i see for some month ago what microsoft do with our data, that make me pretty down.
I prefer from far jolla and canonical (but the ubuntu touch is not so good as the sfos).

Summary: So after some days of waiting and checking the answers I get to a first statement: Although some customers are more or less leaving or are not willing to spend money again to Jolla, the majority of the people here ARE REALLY INTERESTED in getting a Jolla Phone 2 from Jolla with the same/or better support like the current one.

For me that is an absolutely clear message to Jolla.

JOLLA:

You have a customer base that is convinced of your product (mainly the software) but who is in need of hardware. So please consider making another reference product: Jolla Phone 2, give us the spare batteries/parts that we missed so much. The components for the phone were discussed here so many times I'm sure you can already pick a best of...

Don't waste this opportunity with doing nothing there is a NEED for you to act, there is a DEMAND from us to be satisfied. Almost all current Jolla Phone customers can be considered potential phone 2 customers, which other company can tell this after their very first product launch within 2,5 years??

We are waiting....

yes the battery point is a good one. it must be completely thought for the replaceable battery too for a long time and be available on the jolla-store.

The Intex device will be released in under a month, Jolla can't make a phone any quicker (or at all in their current situation) than that. Just hold your horses!

jollailija ( 2016-01-26 18:13:15 +0300 )edit

:-) yes indeed timely seen that is a little bit exaggerated for asking for action. maybe indeed just announce that it will be done, but with current stand of shortly happened is not reasonable....

cemoi71 ( 2016-01-26 18:26:15 +0300 )edit

I have no problem to wait 6 or more months for Jolla Phone 2 since the actual one is still good except for the battery issue. I would also not change so fast my phones I usually keep them 4-6 six years depending on how fast the wear out. But I think Jolla should use this chance and gain back some trust in announcing a next phone for a good price and components and as I said if its just a reference model like the Google Nexus Models it is needed to be independent from 3rd party products that atre maybe designed with too many bad components. Imagine if the Intex phone come with 8 cores cpu but again only 1 GB RAM or a huge size that disturbes the gesture based UI ..

PatsJolla ( 2016-01-26 18:38:36 +0300 )edit

Well, the "Jolla phone" was designed by a 3rd party too and the components aren't that great :(

The only way I would entertain this would be the Sailfish OS on Nokia hardware.

Android is a rubbish OS, the hardware from manufacturers like Samsung is total rubbish.

Apple is not even in the race as far as I am concerned, too focussed on ruling the world with shitty products but their marketing is amazing.

Yes! Of course !! I have recently tested microsoft phone and the camera would not shut down, (error or feature ??).and I have used Android for several years, with simple apps that need control of allmost all kind of info or else the app will not work.. IOS and Iphone works surely well, but interface is not my cup of tea... wish Jolla team all the best and hopefully the will survive..

Just to play the devil's advocate, Sailfish apps may also need all sorts of control and you would not even know about it. Android's security model is not perfect but what is worse, "not perfect" or "nonexistent"?

pichlo ( 2016-01-28 03:13:10 +0300 )edit

@pichlo - Good point. But overall, Jolla's business model isn't (yet) to mine your personal data and package your profile for advertisers, unlike Google. So we are really relying on that and hoping Jolla will delivers on its promise to make the device really "privacy leak proof".

YES, I definitely would buy another Jolla/Sailfish phone.

I got mine in last November and the software sure has it´s quirks but all in all I love it.

The hardware is good enough for me as it is, so I will wait 2 or 3 years before buying a new one. My hopes are for a fairphone with full Sailfish support. I will just wait and see what is available when I need to buy a new phone.
