Strange to read that people still think an antivirus software would protect them.

@Xeon, goto settings and enable developer mode. Terminal will be installed now. Open terminal from the app grid and type "ps -aux" without quotes and press enter. On the top right corner of terminal you can see a soft touch menu button, press it and choose 'select' in 'drag mode'. Select the ps -aux output and again press menu to copy the text. Well, then paste here.

For me, the phone didn't send any sms. That may be because I have 0 balance in my SIM. :D

Thank you for paying attention. However, this is not a result of virus or a bug in the software. This is a one time activation text message that device sends to Intex after new or newly flashed device has been taken into use for the first time. This feature has been requested by Intex and as far as I understood common practice in their devices.

How is "one time" implemented? Is there a confirmation expected to stop the registration messages?

Yes, this is standard practice worldwide. My iPhone and Samsung Tizen OS phone also sent an sms the first time I used it. Samsung also said that it would send an sms ONCE for every new SIM inserted in the phone. I think all cell phone manufacturers do this this to make a note of the number of users of their phone and to know the cellular service provider that you use, among other information, to better their products.

"Standard praxis"? I find this questionable. Why would they need to know my MSISDNs? On top of this I have to pay for this! At least this should be transparent and well documented! As Jolla stands for privacy and data protection (that's what I thought), there should be a pop-up and the registration SM should only proceed if acknowledged by the user.

Got a way to disable the sms activation service Thanks to @mautz from TMO We have to disable the service as well as mask the timer which launches the service. (I don't know if the timer is user timer or not)

devel-su
systemctl --user stop sms-activation-intex.service
systemctl --user disable sms-activation-intex.service

systemctl --user stop sms-activation-intex.timer
systemctl --user mask sms-activation-intex.timer

if it doesn't work try to remove --user for timer

To revert back

systemctl --user enable sms-activation-intex.service
systemctl --user unmask sms-activation-intex.timer

This is a less intrusive way, and I like it, but if the service will enable itself after an update, one would have to do this every-time. But then, if disabling repos causes the updates to not work, then this is the only option.

I need to check. I have executed the commands but the phone is still sending an sms daily.

dillihifi ( 2016-08-10 04:11:42 +0300 )edit

how to check whether the process has been disabled

dillihifi ( 2016-08-11 03:59:48 +0300 )edit

You can check it by,

systemctl --user status sms-activation-intex.service
bhavin192 ( 2016-08-11 05:10:59 +0300 )edit

Is this still the best way to disable this sms activation? Should i do this before i insert sim for the first time?

@Jolla:
Remove that feature. Nobody wants this so called standard practice, whether Samsung or Apple doing this is not a reason. Don't discuss with us or Intex about it. Rip it out, immediately.

This is surveillance.

What did you think what this surveillance message adds to your reputation? This is a total no brainer. And the people here are also talking about position data. This is a security breach! And so we are back to the main point of Sailfish:
Where is the complete source-code, as promised in the past?

https://together.jolla.com/question/140943/intex-aquafu
While reading that post is difficult, they told the phone owner about position data. And it looks like your spending the money of the device owner every day to their cell provider.

I understand how you feel. It is sad that this unsolicited data grab in the form of an initial SMS is standard practice. But that said, Jolla will have to honour agreements between it and the hardware distributor. But then again, this being a fully tweak-able phone, we can rip out what ever components we think are undesirable (hopefully with out consequence).

That is my opinion, @hoschi, Today morning, I waked up, seeing service message saying I lost some money and I amazed how? I checked everywhere. And then called cellular provider customer care. They told me that it was send to Intex data centres. This is an open mobile platform, whom considers peoples demands and peoples privacy. Why should they use my location and other details ? why they need that ? this is surveillance right? @Jolla, Please consider this as a serious issue and make necessary steps to prevent your clients from collecting data from it. I am trying to decompile the binary. But unable to do so. I am using linux and I tried that with Dissy. Nothing is being shown. May be because of platform related stuffs. If anybody interested, Please share the decompiled file. We can examine what data they are taking from us. see, I made similar thread, https://together.jolla.com/question/140943/intex-aqua-fish-is-collecting-my-personal-data/

I found a way to stop this but this would also stop outgoing sms but u will recieve sms without any problem,go to setting- apps- messages - and edit(remove last digit ) the sms message centre address phone no. this will stop the annoying messages sending.

I'm also facing the same issue. If it's one time then why it's being sent again and again?? There must be some issue with the system. Here is the proof from "My idea app"

Luckily balance was low :(

But disabling/deleting Intex stuff is not proper solution.

bhavin192 ( 2016-07-31 16:09:09 +0300 )edit

That's the only solution right now,I had done to my Aqua fish , now every thing was normal.
