August is a lazy month so lets make a poll of some sort.

You get to have one native app that you will pay 10 euros (or the equivalent in your local currency) for. What is it.

Rules:

One answer per person and only one app.

Must be something not having to do with the core os.

Separate answers so others can upvote/downvote.

For those willing to chip in for app development, a place like Bountysource could be suitable to show that interest: How to post a Bounty

Interesting poll. Looking to the (far) future it may even be that native apps (on Android, iOS and Windows) will lose importance and be replaced by so called "progressive web apps": Native Apps are Doomed

Progressive web apps will strengthen Sailfish OS as more and more companies will start to provide browser-based applications instead of native. This may sound like utopia to you now, but the process has already started. So it seems that an awesome (native!) browser will be the most important app for the future of Sailfish OS. The linked article is a good starting point to create your first progressive web app (don't forget to test it on Sailfish OS!). Or try out some progressive web apps now: https://pwa.rocks/

I think this should be a Wiki post.

This is other thing than paying. Jolla should give an alternative method (i.e connmanctl) to be used e.g. with Situations app in addition to totally block connmanctl in e.g. Situations for wifi, bt and flight mode. Thus we as users could choose with our own risks. Let me say, this should be worth 10 euros or a pint of beer.

Tidings. There's no native 3rd party app I use more often. (And I remember how much I missed a native RSS reader when there was none.)

The point was to ask for an app that doesn't exist or everything available doesn't cut it. But ok. Its your money. :P

@ApB Oh. I wouldn't have read that from your question (and still don't). Sorry.

ossi1967 ( 2016-08-24 11:02:08 +0200 )edit

@ossi1967

Yeah i know. I wasn't clear enough and i assumed people will ask for things we don't have.

ApB ( 2016-08-24 11:49:02 +0200 )edit

ApB Did you invite us to ask for apps? It was more like an invitation to reward developers for their work.

ossi1967 ( 2016-08-24 12:58:01 +0200 )edit

The idea was to ask for an app that you need so much that you would gladly pay a big price to have. Should have worded the question better. :/

Also would like to see good editor for text files (qml, conf etc...) with integrated Network connection (sftp, ftp etc...) to easily edit files from one jolla device on another (also as root), for example edit files from Jolla phone on Jolla Tablet... For now I use andoid DroidEdit Pro app (paid), but prefer native apps... Yes, we can do it via terminal with "vi", I know.. But it less convenient, for me at least...

don't want another device in the pocket ;)

Schturman ( 2016-08-26 11:49:09 +0200 )edit

there already is a great native editor out there is use all the time: TinyEdit

Improvements though could be start in root mode, it should also be possible to mount amd login to an online ftp or sft server and create a symlink to your home or nemo folder, which then could also be opened by TinEdit, might want to check out Linux scripts or commands that could do this?!

I'd pay €10,- (even more) to have a "hub" like BB10 has containing all communications (e-mail, messages, etc), preferably as a super app (as I understand it, a super app adds a third "main" screen).

I understand this is somewhat like the notifications screen, though it is/was much more convenient (as one could not only read anything from there but also reply without actually opening the individual apps).

Oh yes please, hub on BB10 rocks, the android version is but a poor imitation; such a shame that good OS's like BB10 (and WebOS) fell by the wayside, had web apps been around in their time, maybe they would have survived. Long live Sailfish

Full functional and full featured Exchange Active Sync (EAS) that supports Contacts, Calendar and Tasks... This would also include a working app to handle tasks... A fully working app is worth paying 10 bucks in my opinion...

Spoken from an end-user perspective: Calendar App - Local Calendar App that allows synchronising with local Outlook Calendar as well as adding calendars. - All without using cloud-services like google. - I´d probably even pay more than 10 EUR for that.

The current calendar app syncs just fine with CalDAV and SyncML. No googles needed.

Fuzzillogic ( 2016-08-27 14:34:00 +0200 )edit

MMh... Thx, Fuzzillogic. - Do you by chance know where I can find kind of an instruction on how to sync a local Outlook Calendar with the / a Calendar on my Jolla? - Any help would be much appreciated. Many thx so far.

An app that automatically encrypts backups created by sailfish in the folder they are stored in.

Additionally a backup option to back-up your Jolla Applications (including the application screen positions).

This should be a high-priority item on the wishlist, more then anything else in this thread. But why an extra app? It should be a built-in feature.

Browser - Like User Friendly Chrome on Android

With Browsers we access most of the internet. I personally think Browser is the one every OS needs first and foremost. Its Fundamental ... I may be wrong but if we compare the current browsers in sailfish with android & ios, its really worser .

We dont have service Apps from top companies like Netflix, Amazon, etc (1000+). Atleast we need excellent browsers to stream/use online services at full scale. With just the Os, Sailfish cant survive, we need 3rd party services for sure. A excellent Browser is the first step to it

A User Friendly UI (not a problem if the UI is same as android) , Fast , download manager, reliable , Secure and with most of the features .

I would surely pay 10 euros

( Correct be if i am wrong )
