Seems that the Here Maps navigation has stopped working after the latest sailfish update. Atleast in my case the screen turns to black after having selected destination and pressed "start".. So is there a working navigation app for Jolla/Sailfish at this time?

What about modRana ? :)

It might not be able to do everything just yet, but it's a native app and is available from the Jolla Store and from Open Repos. :)

modRana is really nice app. But I'm waiting for next version with initial offline routing support as you mentioned at http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1512428&postcount=1894

Yeah modRana is a great app. If this app finally gets offline support, my need for an offline navigation app will be fullfilled.

Of course there is the awesome open-source OSMAND app from F-Droid (Android). If you have issues with TTS sound, check out this.

Of course there are many native apps in store, like MAEP (with offline feature). No need for droids.

And you are not the first: Maps that actually work? and not the only want more: Native Offline Navigation with voicenavigation and turn by turn. Try the search ..

I tried this maep, but could not find graphical turn by turn navigayion feature in this app, so not a sollution for me.

"Here we go" still works fine on my Jolla 1. Maybe try to reinstall. Either from jolla store or from "uotodown"

It looks to me that there are multiple native maps apps, but none of them is really usable offline. So, I am posting this as an answer with the hope that it may stimulate the app developers to join under a single app and make it work. As a user, I am looking for something like OSMAND/Maps.me in Android world:

  • you could download OSM-based maps for different countries.
  • maps get rendered from local files (vector rendering)
  • offline navigation supporting car / bike/ walking

It seems to me that the pieces are available, at least some. So, maybe instead of 5 apps we could focus on a one app and not diverge too much? There is a lot of effort put into modRana, Poor Maps, Maep, OSM Scout, MoNav, to name few with the talented developers behind it. Maybe they can find a common ground?

While this is not an answer to an original question, hopefully it could lead to one.

Well, modRana for example uses (well, will use in the next version) the Monav routing engine, in the form of the monav-light routing utility for offline routing. It should be quite easy for other navigation apps to also make use of it. :)

@MartinK: Thanks for an answer! That's great that you could reuse parts developed in other apps. Maybe that's the way to do it and get the best app in the form of natural selection. I just hope that you guys don't waste too much of your precious time to port the same functionality into different apps.

I don't know much about map rendering, so maybe this is naive question. Why do you use tiles and not vector-based OSM maps? As far as I understand, in OSM vector based map viewers I could just download/generate for the whole country/region and use it offline with any zoom I want. With tiles, I presume, that's not that easy.
