In release 1.0.3.8, a nickname field will be synthesized from some other information, if a vCard record does not contain a valid first name or last name.
I still have this open issue with a contact with 2 phone numbers, an Email-Address and a company name. The contact is listed under the Email-Address in the contact list. When I try to delete the Email-Address, I can't save the contact. Will this be fixed in an upcoming release?
Cmdr_Zod ( 2014-02-03 22:45:54 +0300 )Well, it is a bit pointless for a company to have nickname, first name or last name.
Cmdr_Zod ( 2014-02-05 21:07:00 +0300 )@Cmdr_Zod: as discussed elsewhere, it is necessary for a vCard to contain either a name or a nickname, which identifies the entity being described. The organization property is metadata about the primary entity - if your entry describes the company itself, the company's name should be in the nickname field rather than the company name field.
MattVogt ( 2014-02-05 23:00:14 +0300 )I beg to differ. The FN field should be used, not NICKNAME. FN is mandatory, NICKNAME isn't. N is mandatory too but can be empty as in N:;;;;

And you cannot save contacts that doesn't contain last name, only company.
Salde ( 2013-12-25 20:30:02 +0300 )How did you get a contact with only organization field filled? You cannot save a contact in the People app unless it has at least one of { first-name, last-name, nickname }, and you shouldn't be able to import via VCF, since a valid VCard record must contain the 'F' and 'FN' fields.
MattVogt ( 2013-12-26 10:09:02 +0300 )I guess you mean 'N' and 'FN' :) Those fields must be present but can be empty. Besides that the importer should IMHO copy 'ORG', 'NICKNAME' or the first 'TEL' or 'EMAIL' to 'FN' if it is not present/empty.
Tanghus ( 2013-12-26 10:44:14 +0300 )Ok, good point. Yes, we could do that.
MattVogt ( 2013-12-26 10:53:31 +0300 )I imported such a company contact from my N900 and then run into similar problems. I wanted to remove an outdated email address but could not save it after the edit. Also the sorting is bad, I see the email address in the list of contacts. The company name would make more sense (like on the N900).
