Hello gang!

Considering buying a Sailfish phone, I had a Jolla before that I bought second hand, but it had a slight distortion on the screen. So I'm wondering which devices run Sailfish best, and which device is generally the best device?

Which official device is best? (ie Jolla Phone/Aquafish)

Which device is best that have had Sailfish ported to it? (ie Nokia N9/Xiaomi Mi 2)How does it run on each device?

Thanks guys!

It depends if you need or want commercial components such as Android support and Exchange ActiveSync. If so, Jolla 1, Jolla C, or Intext Aqua Fish are the only phones that meet this requirement (I skip TuringPhone because only very few were built).

If not, you can take one of the devices documented here and install a community port.

I would suggest to wait a little until more details on the Jolla - Sony relationship become available. It is expected that Sony Experia phones running Sailfish OS will be available. That would include also the mentioned commercial components IIRC.

I too would recommend waiting for the Xperia X community edition.

Seems like Xperia is the way to go, would love to experiment with some cheaper devices for fun. May pick up a N9 just for a play around. Not a Sailfish based question, but can anyone point me in the direction for custom ROMs for beginners? I'm looking to install a new OS on my Wileyfox Storm (probably Lineage). I'm new to all this and I'm reading conflicting information online.

Thanks for the links bud, taken a look over them, but while these are very informative it doesn't really give any opinion on which ones Sailfish runs best on, or which ones have good build quality or camera.

I'm really looking for opinions, what people have used and what people think are the best.

Really appreciate the links though!

Perhaps a bit more expensive but do like Sailfsh port upon OnePlusX with it's AMOLED screen and can even have 4K video if you want. One downside is that OnePlusX quite slippery with glass upon both sides, although you can usually pick a damaged functional one quite cheaply on Ebay to experiment. Even when parts were available it was however never cost effective to repair this glued together device unfortunately.

I've often seen the libhybris table but that's the first time I've seen libhybris_reboot. What is it? A fork with legacy stuff removed? Nothing links to that page.

@DaveRo: look at http://merproject.org/meetings/mer-meeting/2017/mer-meeting.2017-01-09-09.00.log.html#l-86 and a few lines above in log to get the context.

Nexus 4 is the best i guess if you consider price/perf. I can send you aliendalvik.rpm and gapps.rpm for it. You will have android support on Nexus 4. Everything is working great on my Nexus 4. Google play market, services, sound, camera everything.
