Does anybody know how to to setup a dual authentication on Bitstamp (or other popular dual step auth sites) using a Sailfish OS phone? Do I have to rely on the native SailOTP or do I have to go for Androids Google authenticator or DUO mobile (both installable).

You can do EVERYTHING!

SailOTP works for everything that use TOTP or HOTP. You can also manually add a Steam key.

Any direct experience with Bitstamp?

No, but all other services that I've tried work fine. Just try it out, no need to ask. All that advertise that they use Google Authenticator are in fact using TOTP.

Stupidly enough many online services can't spell out that they use TOTP or HOTP (just 2FA "app" or "Google Authenticator"). An exception is at least Kraken where they clearly list HOTP and TOTP 2FA. Everyone should realize it is in their own interest to spell out clearly which standard they are using. This helps and educates people about improving security.

I totally agrre, johanh. It would suffice to declare the used protocol. I'wouldn't like to lose the access and need a special recovery.
