What IM services are supported?

As of the latest update, the only messaging option I have available is SMS. Google taljk stopped working, and I read from the release notes that it has been disabled. I tried registering to a few XMPP services, but I don't seem to either change my presence status, or see XMPP contacts.

Is there a plan to have IM options on the way forward? There are third party services (e.g. Sailorgram) but they lack integration with the contacts and message history.

Ideally, an improved XMPP telepathy plugin would be a good way forward, but anything would work for me as long as it is not locking me to a single vendor.

Some tips how to get Google IM working see here: https://together.jolla.com/question/166394/211-presence-menu-possible-to-get-gtalkhangouts/

Port 5222 and reboot did the trick for me.

On the other hand support for more reveleant protocols in telepathy/Messages app would be sweet

Having integrated Telegram support would be really cool

For XMPP you can install improved library http://devel.kondorgulasch.de/telepathy-gabble/

@Marzanna Thank you for your suggestion. I may give it a try. But my main point here is that it appears there is no good solution for instant messaging in the base operating system, nor ways for third parties to extend the messaging framework.

I mean workarounds are well and good, but there should be at least one supported instant messaging solution.

And a means for third parties to provide the protocol of the day plugin would be appreciated, but that is a second step.

@Xeno_PL I already tried the suggestions (without reinstalling the whole os) and I still could not set my presence.

But yesterday, I received a gtalk chat message, and since then I can see the presence setting is working again (and the XMPP contacts in the people app are listed). So there is probably some bug preventing the account to be listed as active or something.

Maybe it would be useful to have a "verify status" button in the account setting, to remove doubts from the user.
