So, Samsung made an announcement, that they will bring linux to their latest phones, namely the Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8+. Hm, looks like it is probably going to be some container-based solution;

Installed as an app, Linux on Galaxy gives smartphones the capability to run multiple operating systems, enabling developers to work with their preferred Linux-based distributions on their mobile devices. Whenever they need to use a function that is not available on the smartphone OS, users can simply switch to the app and run any program they need to in a Linux OS environment.

It would be to much indeed to hope for a true linux solution with kernel and accompanying divers... :)

The next tizen will have latest kernels wayland and proper drivers but dont expect much. (closed and signed top to bottom though).

We can do the cointainer stuff already in SFOS -i think there was a topic in TJC- but all we lack is video out to be able to connect on a screen

Even if it's not the same thing right now, it sends a message and hopefully more vendors will offer a more open/better solution altogether.
