Left the phone last evening and now in the morning all app were closed. It had not rebooted, uptime over 6 days. Had only native apps running e.g. Notes, Mail, Browser, Terminal and Battery Log.

The first thing that comes to mind is lipstick crash & restart - when lipstick goes down, it takes all apps with it.

One relatively easy way to check if lipstick might have had problems would be to compare how long the device has been up vs lipstick:

$ uptime
09:30:00 up 16:01,  1 user,  load average: 4.04, 4.03, 3.94
$ systemctl --user status lipstick|grep since
Active: active (running) since Sun 2017-10-22 17:28:32 EEST; 16h ago

If they are about the same (like the 16 hours shown above), lipstick is unlikely to be the cause of the issue.

If there is significant difference, you might want to check if journal has anything interesting around the time lipstick was restarted.

Yes, that seems to be the cause.

Few days OK now, suspecting Prostogram did this. Will leave it running to test.

Might be a memory leak aswell which kills lipstick.
