I'm on Sailfish X, and for some time (maybe since upgrade to Ff57.0.1), Firefox won't start. How may I troubleshoot this ? ( and is it affecting anyone else ?)

@alci - I have no idea about troubleshooting such things and I don't use Dalvik, but have a look here for a workaround;

Hi. Is it a permissions problem? Runtastic used to start properly, but now it crashes before opening Thanks

Using logcat, I could get an uncaught exception when running FF 57.0.1. So I will rather create a new question for this.

Are you using the Jolla store for this? If so, I experienced the same problem on Sailfish X when updating Firefox. Also, on an Android 7.1.2 system where I generally use Aptoide to install apps, I also had a problem with FF 57.0.1 where I got a blank window initially, but when I pressed the overview button I saw two FF windows, the second one also blank but with Cyrillic text in the title bar. [Aptoide hosts the Jolla store, so I would have downloaded and installed the same underlying APK in both cases.] Uninstalling and re-installing FF didn't fix the problem.

I have contacted Aptoide and they have said that they have checked and reloaded the APK, so it might be worth trying to uninstall and reinstall FireFox now. Aptoide also suggested to me to clear the FireFox cache and associated data, but I haven't tried that since in the meantime I got it working like this:

  • Install the F-Droid store app
  • Check that the F-Droid repositories and app are up-to-date, and update if necessary
  • From F-Droid, search for and install Yalp
  • Uninstall FireFox if you have it installed
  • From Yalp, install Firefox (using login credentials supplied by Yalp, if you don't have a Google account).

This fixed the problem for both my Android phone and Sailfish X

it seems f-droid is not available in (my view of) the jolla store... only aptoid, and it doesn't include f-droid, nor yalp...
