Signal (android) doesn't show contacts, standalone Windows app does?

The signal app from Android doesn't show any contacts, so I can't start a chat, unless they send me a message first. Really strange is, that when I use the standalone desktop client within windows, contacts are recognized ... I really don't understand why, but it's annoying I don't see my contacts on the phone. Settings have been set to share contacts with Android, but this doesn't work for Signal (although it works for Whatsapp).

I'm (still) using the Jolla "1" phone.

Settings/Android support/Allow Android apps to access your contacts

I already did that, edited the FP for that. I also switched it off, switched Android support off/on, switched the sharing of contacts back to on and switched android support off/on, to have a full "powercycle", but without succes.

I also have this problem. The weird thing is that it DID find one contact as soon as he joined Signal (later than me)...

Same here. Sometimes he can access the Profile picture from my contacts but not the names.

As a workaround try entering.or searching for the telephonenumber. And yes indeed that changed with a commit in signal which seems to cause incompatibilities with Alien Dalvik

You'll have to activate SMS in signal settings in order to see your contacts. This option is available on Jolla 1 but unfortunately not on Xperia X (unsupported operation). Surprisingly signal on Xperia X does receive SMS though. As far as I remember, signal on Jolla 1 didn't.

I transferred a clear text backup of my messages from Jolla 1 to Xperia X; thus I have all my active contacts available in the conversations mode.

There also is a native app called whisperfish. It is under active developement, but you need to download the RPM manually . https://github.com/aebruno/whisperfish/releases

Whisperfish (v0.4.5.0) is no longer working for me (Xperia X + SailfishX v2.1.4.14).

While switching from Android to Sailfish (XA2), I was hoping for a native Signal app. Does anyone have Wisperfish running on SFOS 3?

I am running Whisperfish on SFOS 3, it has some minor bugs but in general it is working. v0.5.1

On my Xperia X signal didn't show any contacts for months as well. My contacts are synced via carddav. Now it suddenly does show them. All I can remember I did, was creating a contact on the phone yesterday evening. Today in the morning, all numbers in signal show the contact's name next to it.

On my Xperia X whisperfish 0.5.1 (rpm package downloaded here, not from store) works on 3.0.0.8, but contact sync doesn't. You have to add your contacts manually and the app is a pain in the *, but its working and you can send messages. The comfort issues might be based on whisperfish using the web api of Signal and is only a wrapper, but a real native signal client.
