Hi,

I am switching between german, english and chinese keyboard input. On my Jolla Phone, this was no problem and I could easily input chinese pinyin or hand drawn characters.

Now, on Sailfish X if I select any of the chinese keyboards, I still look at the english layout and there is no area to draw chinese characters (for drawing input) and there appear no characters on inputting pinyin. It just works as an english keyboard is supposed to work. Nothing Chinese there. Any other keyboard (Russian, Thai, whatever) appears to work fine.

So no way to input any Chinese.

Anyone else found this problem/ can tell me what's wrong?

Regards,

ian

update: even after upgrading to Sailfish3, no change in that. Good consistency at least. Still, no one else having trouble with chinese input?

I have the same thing. just upgraded my licence to full (android support, etc.). however when I enable the chinese keyboard, it doesn't do anything except having a chinese 'switch to numbers' button. all text is just western characters...

pls bump this issue

have you tried to install jolla-xt9-cp and jolla-keyboard-layout-chinese packages?

EDIT. Do you have official version of SailfishOS or community version?

Thanks for your comments:

  • I tried installing the two suggested packages, jolla-keyboard-layout-chinese did work but pkcon can't find jolla-xt9-cp. Still no pinyin available.

  • Sorry to not know the difference, I got this phone used with Sailfish OS preinstalled: What is the easiest way to see the difference between the official and the community version?

Check if you can find Android support or Microsoft Exchange in Jolla Store. If you don't have it then you have community edition which means there is no no chinese input from jolla. You have to use BirdZang solution then.

I was looking for a while for a way to distinguish community and official version and couldn't find it. So thanks, if this is all it takes.

Apparently I can't find either Android support or MS Exchange in the Jolla Store which I find slightly weird because under "My apps", Android support is listed as installed.

I take it this means I am somehow in the community edition. Do you have any link where the difference in versions and the installation paths is explained? I assumed that the previous owner of the phone had used the official installation since I get updates the official way. So how is this not an official version even though it is a Sony Xperia X originally with Sailfish X?

Thanks for the help!

If you are not the offical version, you can use my ime based on libgooglepinyin.
