Jumping onboard
Hello everyone,
I wanted for a very long time to make the switch to SailfishOS; I now found an Xperia 5121 at a decent price and I'm thinking of making the switch.
It would be ideal if I could make this my daily driver, but I have some questions regarding the features that may not be working yet (I read throught the topics but I couldn't find an up-to-date answer):
- does the front camera work ? (5122=Yes)
- does the back camera offer decent results with the latest auto-focus fixes ? (5122=Yes)
- does skype / fb messenger work ? (sorry, I would like to quit but it's not possible at the moment) (5122=Skype for Business Yes, FBM?)
- are there any native apps that can do video calls ?
- is the mail app sluggish ? does it support activesync ? (5122= Exchange sync works randomly)
- does the calendar app support google calendar sync (and does it work ok) ?
- any experience with Android Auto ?
- random crashes/restarts/freezes ? (5122= less than on average Android)
Thank you in advance for the answers ! (Sorry for being so lazy that I added answers directly -EHakkarainen)
does the calendar app support google calendar sync (and does it work ok)? Well I'm not really happy with that one, I switchend to CalDAV / CardDAV which run smoother. However there are issues with special letters such as >, or ä, or ö. GoogleSync seems to be a bit selective on the Data format. I suspect my public transport app of importing non vaild data. With CalDAV however the same Calendar entries work fine.

It does sync my calendars
Keep in mind, Jolla works on general support of the camera. This covers things like focus bugs.
But Sailfish X doesn't have access to the proprietary Sony post-processing Android stuff that is DRMed by the "TA" partition. So camera photos are NEVER going to look the same as when using Sony's Android Photo app.
DrYak ( 2018-04-10 13:24:30 +0200 )editNo, decent is different. As soon as light conditions are slightly challenging (meaning almost everytime indoors), pictures are out of focus. Even with the workarounds of @leszek, which really help in good light conditions.
Spark ( 2018-04-10 13:39:47 +0200 )editI find the native Mail app incredibly sluggish (on a F5122). I recently bought a cinema ticket online, and the time it took to render the barcode that was e-mailed back to me was almost long enough for me to make a cup of tea ;-)
I'm sticking with it for now, hoping that things will improve with Sailfish 3, but you may prefer to use something like K-9 mail from the F-droid store
